Madame Says…

I shed a little tear when I passed by Shop at Maison Bertaux the other week, at the pink paisley wallpaper and the shut up doors.  It almost made me want to return to my naive teenage "Down with the corporate fat cats" ranting days, in protest to what looked to be a rising-rents-must-move-on situation.  Anyhow I've since been following Madame aka Pippa Brooks who kindly did a style diary for Style Bubble late last year on her new blog Madame Says where I found out that she has teamed up with Stevie Stewart 90s label Bodymap (love the archive images below on this ancient Geocities page).

With Pippa and Stevie's collective bolts of fabric, antique lace and ribbon and knitwear, they're recyling it all to make pieces that in Madame's words involve…"Victoriana, tight tweed suits, lingerie, Bodymap recycled knitwear and there‚Äôs a certain old-school lesbian chic creeping in there which I love!"

I'm down with Lesbian chic and keen to see the results especially as they're going to be sold at M. Goldstein at 67 Hackney Road, a junky/everything-goes kinda shop that I'm keen to see after seeing Jose Parla's images and with Pippa giving it a lot of love.  Once I've checked it out, I'm sure it will be going onto the shopping map…

Anyway….I'm itching to see the results of Pippa and Stevie's handiwork…. here's Pippa looking fetching in Bodymap stockings (want want want!) and a dress from their little collaboration…

  2. that shop is great! i stupidly let some amazing barely worn vintage ysl shoes out of my grasp there when it first opened because i had no money… i’ve not yet been able to go back in because the memory haunts me so much!

  4. That shop looks amazing, and makes me mourn the demise of others like it more and more.
Also the collection sounds great – tweed, lingerie, what a brilliant mix

  5. Imagine that elephant head (fake, isn’t it? I guess and I hope) in a living room? Scary….
    😉

  6. I hope you still go in to Maison for the cakes though – easily the best in London!! I am unhealthily addicted to the chocolate and cream profiterole-esque pile. Also how cute is the boy in the last photograph peeping out from behind Pippa?!

  7. Isn’t it the best news? I was too young for Bodymap the first time round but I loved their stuff so much. Must check this out.

  8. I’m not sure about Lesbian chic, Flemish Elle did an article on it in December I believe and they basically described it as the stuff you see on ‘The L Word’ – I’m not into that show.
I like that last picture with the kid in the window 🙂

  9. I’ve never hear about that shop before this post. But i was reading her blog and all the links you attached and it looks wonderful!! I must go when I visit london again.
    xx
