Just can’t get knit outta my head…

The North Sea winds practically took half my face off this weekend and though the cold isn’t really ever going to get THAT  extreme in London, I still can’t get knits off my mind.  I’ve moved away however from the delicate summery things that one might wear in front of a fireplace at home to tougher things that can actually withstand the cold and have just done a bit of knit bulk ordering from Yokoo.  Though knitwear has come a long long way from those stereotypes of a granny knitting whilst watching Corrie, it is that exact stereotype that drives designers like Timothy James Andrews and his knits evoke that nostalgia of those wonky jumpers that your nan knitted you that you might have hated at the time that you might yearn for now….see pom poms and clashing colours.  At the same time there’s also a refinement about the madness, a juxtaposition because there is a precision to Andrews’ knits and I saw this first in his knitted bangles from his graduate collection which have been featured in editorials.  The capsule collection here for 08-09 has those same bangles but it’s the giant sleeved dresses which at once combines my current obsession with extreme shape shifting clothes and knits…and guarding my body from North Sea winds…

  1. I really like the bubble shapes of the last look. Knits seem so perfect for the semi cold weather right now.

  2. Amazing pics and gorgeous garments! I think in Barcelona is gonna get that cold either, but I’m really wanting thick knit this winter 😉

  3. These garnments make me daydream about my childhood.. I love the colors and the shapes so much..

  4. I love the last dress! I live in Canada, though, so I think it’ll probably get too cold for that much leg. 🙁

  5. North Sea winds, ha! I live right next to the North Sea in Tynemouth and just got inside after doing some errands on the high street and am looking for the remnants of my face so I can put it back together!
The knits – like my grandmother never made but I wish she had.

  6. i love the way he’s worked with knitts! it’s so innovative, the bangles are cool and that red dress it gorgeous not sure how wearable it is though.
