Sweet Mich Dulche

One of the best things I think to have come out from Style Bubble is that random friendships can be struck a any given time.  At the Sophia Kokosalaki show whilst I was trying to make out the complicated seating system, a friendly face asked if I was Susie.  Turns out the girl was a designer called Mich Dulche, who unfortunately had been left in Paris alone by noneother than her friend Bryanboy.  Bryan was supposed to be in Paris Fashion Week but was unable to come due to visa issues.  Bryan did pass a message that Mich would find friends though in Paris and though I’ve never had the privilege of meeting Bryan (by the by, London needs you to stalk the streets!), through the blogosphere, things just get that bit closer and we can do away with formalities such as proper meet’n’greets and so Mich=Bryan’s Friend=Susie’s Friend (I tend to get overly familiar with bloggers I meet in real life…it’s a sad and typical of an internet geek such as myself….).

Mich’s lookbook for her S/S 09 collection reflects said friendship as Bryanboy is the model that is jostling for attention alongside a startlingly pretty female model.  Questions like "Did they have an on-set ‘Who’s Prettier in this dress?’ contest?" come to mind.   Of course the dresses themselves are pretty so the contest would be a complicated one.  Mich, based in Manila, has studied all over the shop – CSM, LCF, FIT and has assisted the likes of Marjan Pejoski and Jessica Ogden.  Millinery is Mich’s first love though and I must say that before she grabbed my attention, I did notice her rather fetching headgear.  She takes on rococo curls and tapestry textures in her hats for S/S 09…

Her clothing is both shape and print-led. Where she has developed unusual shapes for say a pair of trousers, which gather at the thighs and gets nipped and tucked, she plays down the colours.

I shouldn’t look too closely at the prints as they have hearts and cherubs on them but Mich pulls off the hand drawn prints and prevent them from becoming too sweet and in fact they’re a humorous take on the ornate rococo interiors.

I’m enamoured with Mich’s stuff but debating who wears the clothes better is something I’ve yet to conclude.

  1. OH MY GOD!!!
I didn’t make it to Paris this season because I went to New Zealand Fashion Week. By the time I got back, I only had a few days to apply for a French visa before Paris started when the embassy told me it takes 2 weeks!
I have to go next season… it’s Paris or bust!
    😉

  2. Wow, her stuff is amazing, am in love with several pieces already! That royal blue top is gorgeous, and the mask is unreal, and the hats..wish I could pull them off just to wear those!

  3. These are the sort of clothes that make me want to parade around going into quaint cafes, helping old ladies across the street and onto buses even if they don’t really need help. That’s a very good thing! And the hats are fabulous.

I agree. The hats are gorgeous but I really don’t understand why you are gushing over him. The couple of times I’ve visited his blog I’ve found his glamorization of eating disorders disturbing. Glancing at it quickly now it seems to have evolved greatly but I’m not feeling the hype.

  5. I think Bryan has evolved and stopped writing about anorexia for a long time.

  6. I don’t think the other model with bryanboy is a girl..who agrees with me?

  7. susie you are a sweetheart… texted you today hope you got it! but in case you didn’t thanks for blogging it and glad you like the stuff. it was so lovely to have met you! hope to see you next week at some point when i get back from barcelona!
btw the model is a girl names jasmine maierhofer, and the prints on the clothes are actually pornographic when you look up close, haha. not exactly cherubs, eh? they are meant to look sweet from afar but are really very naughty up close 🙂

  8. the world is so small indeed. i went to school with mich dulce like eons ago. haha!

  9. I, being shallow at times, scrolled through the pictures of this post first before reading the text and I was like “Is that Bryanboy?”, too funny! I really like these clothes actually, most of all that gorgeous headpiece! Who would have thought a simple folded piece of fabric could be so effective! Both of the dresses are very pretty as well, good integration with the graphics!

  10. I find because I’m the exact opposite of Bryanboy, people like him fascinate me to no end…. his blog is a bit of fashion escape in a way that’s VASTLY different from mine…. way more surreal and I do think when he makes those eating disorder gaffs, it’s all in high jest…. I dunno…maybe I have the wrong end of the stick but I still check out his blog…. call it a Perez Hilton/GFY-type fix…
His rise is also fascinating to me as a blogger too…. from blogger to Marc Jacob’s buddy…. you can’t really knock that….!
