Stating the Obvious

Ok ok, everyone loves The Selby and yes, I’m impressed too.  Yes, yes, Santogold, Peaches and MIA have worn Brian Lichtenberg – he’s hot stuff – and I can’t say I’m adverse to something like his panelled leggings.  I therefore couldn’t ingore the combination of the two as they so very obviously yielded good results – a perfect example of a person’s home correlating to what they do…something that I’m working on in my own home where I’m nesting away…

The starkness and clean lines coupled with bouts of randomness in the objects/pictures sums up Lichtenberg’s aesthetic I think.  Some people might easily dismiss his stuff as merely riding the nu-rave train but I think there’s a thought process behind it that makes the pieces look slicker than other similar efforts.

I love how the drip pattern in the bathroom…

…is echoed in his tops

I love the controlled spurts of colour and clean cut collaging interspersed amongst the white space where Lichtenberg works…

  1. ha, i love seeing the bathroom next to those tops! i wonder what came first… dying to see pics of your new abode, i can’t wait to move into my new place either, although i’ll obviously be way more restricted in making it my own… where in london are you living now? oh dear, that sounds terribly stalkerish!!

  2. Yes, I loved that picture of the bathroom! I wouldn’t do it in mine, but I just loved the contrasts! And I do think that his place really does echo his clothing and find it interesting that what he designs is soooo close to how he lives. I wonder if he did the bathroom or his clothes first and if either influenced the other…

  3. i was just wondering what to do in my corridor, now i got some ideas…… ; )
these guys are just so talented.pff

  4. mmm… i really like the pattern of the tiles on the tshirt in the 1st pic. btw, i hope you feel better soon 🙂

  5. i can see what you mean about jumping on the nu-rave bandwagon and i dont like nu-rave but theres something about his collection i really like. I think its the colours hes kept anway from the neons that are normally used for lovely colours. God i wish my studio was as clear as that mines a mess!

  6. the selby is an awsome site, great for inspirations eh.
i can’t dissagree with the person above more! space is one of the loveliest decorations in a room! too much decoration doesnt really help express one’s personally but a little something here and there gives the object a sense of importance. obviously in that room, his clothes and sewing machine and patterns are the most important.

  7. I saw Brian Litchenberg by the porta potties at coachella. I think I was the only person who knew who he was…

  8. I love looking at cool studio spaces. . . but it’s followed by this immediate feeling of jealousy, as one day I’d like to have one of my own.
