‘Tis the year for FTV to explode (and hopefully not implode too embarrassingly…). I’m not referring to the cable TV channel that both perplexes and fascinates people (I like to watch it when I don’t want to think about what I’m watching and just mindlessly be glued to the screen…). I’m talking about fashion TV programmes in general. I’ll be expanding my gripes and grievances in due course but for now, I’ll say that I think the TV channels in the UK seem eager to rectify the problems. Channel 4’S Gok’s Fashion Fix is a nudge in an ok direction even if there are many cringey moments and their preoccupation with ‘price’ and ‘fashion’ is a little irksome. Now we have something from BBC2 entitled…‘Twiggy’s Frock Exchange’ hosted by duh…Twiggy (couldn’t find a picture of what she looks like currently that does her justice…), Lauren Laverne who I have loved since her Kenickie days and she never irritates me despite being on a show that could throw up some contentious issues ‘The Culture Show’ and finally Paula Reed, fash editor of Grazia magazine who seems to have become the unofficial representative talking head on the subject of fashion on British TV.
From the flyer I gather it’s a show encouraging clothes swapping with audience members getting involved with all the fun… is it in some sort of gameshow format? What will Lauren Laverne have to offer? Will Paula Reed pronounce everybody’s swap offerings as ‘absolutely hideous’? Who knows… But like the FTV mug that I am, and since I want to absorb my hobby through a lazy medium that doesn’t involve spending a fortune at Borders and enables me to be the natural couch potato that I am, I’ll certainly tune in to see what the dealio is with Twiggy getting everyone to swap their frocks…

ah this is particularly interesting to me!
i actually think i may have worked with one of those researchers before too.
there are so many fashion tv programmes starting over the next few months. more than you could ever possibly imagine. i’m not quite sure why.
i love how it says yes-free fashion! you can’t buy style though! i hope they direct people to charity shops and second hand stores for cheap buys too, today i went to primark for some v fest worthy leggings and it was rammed with bargain hunters, theres so many other places to utilise!
oh yeah gok’s fashion fix is really cringeworthy. especially that bit where people have to change into a piece of clothing within 10 secs to win it. They may think they’re being educated about ‘fashion’ but what about some class, come on people? ‘Style’ (an why are people obsessed with style) isn’t about or fooling someone into thinking your outfit is really expensive. It just a bit lame and I think its giving fashion a bad name!
I’m a Fashion TV addict too! But we don’t get too many fashion-themed shows in India except for Project Runway, and a Discovery Travel & Living documentary called ‘Adventures of the Ladies’ Tailor’ that followed Manish Arora through the creation of his AW07-08 collection (IMO his coolest ever, though normally I;m not such a huge fan).
I love a good clothes swap. I have scored a few decent garments at my clothes swap party. So much fun!
