Through Gnarlitude, my daily cup of cool (did that sound incredibly cheesy? I hope so…), I came across these pics of Jennifer Eym√®re, editor of my beloved Jalouse magazine and someone who myself and La Coquette were drooling over at the Gucci party back in February. Cobrasnake snapped her at the Jalouse Rocks Paris festival on what looks like a very very old London double decker bus (I’d recognise that hideous check pattern anywhere….). What floored me about the pics though was her top. Now forgive me for thinking this and it might be incredibly naive and childish but I’ve always been in that odd school of thought that basically thinks skinny people never manage to look very slutty even when wearing super sexaaay things…. it might just be an opinion but black top as illustrated below with cut-outs going down the midriff and sheer lace panels is something that me, not so skinny gal, would avoid for the reason that the one thing I’ve never wanted to convey is ‘slutty’ (it’s not a bad thing by the by, just…erm… not me at all… know me in person and you’ll know why…). Jennifer here is not a spindly stick figure and I’d say we’re a little similar in size and she pulls off the top paired with the shorts with great aplomb which prompts me to rethink the whole super-revealing clothes and not have me grabbing for the nearest grey t-shirt to layer it underneath that black lacey bit of goodness. She even pulls it off with a guy grabbing her boob…
Goodness, it is dirty laundry week isn’t it? First you see my disgusting closet. Then you discover that I don’t always win em’ all in the sample sale stakes. Now you find out that I am a wee bit conscious about the body in terms of what I wear…
I am talking extremes though. I’d say yes to a lot of things but it is the flesh baring garms that I have to give a little thought too and that’s exactly what these… um… boob-grabbing pics have done…
I love her hair and her leather jacket!!!
I think it’s the braids and lack of obvious make-up. The top ends up being a bit of a double take, ie: you don’t realize how revealing it is until you take a 2nd look.
The outfit is cute, but I think I wouldn’t wear it somewhere…
for a start, i think you are definitely skinny enough to get away with something so revealing. and i’ve always thought that skinny people can get away with a lot more without looking slutty. though in tops it’s mainly about boob size.
and as ambika says, minimal make-up and and otherwise non-slut outfit helps a lot.
She makes me crave a leather jacket more and more. I think I know where this week’s thrift shopping will take me. To be young, hip and editor of an amazing magazine. Doesn’t get cooler than that. . .

i agree with the skinny thing, because if you are skinny you generally haven’t got much in the cleavage area, which i think is where it turns a bit slutty!

i think it’s the context it’s in, not necessarily the body, like it would be slutty down a club with loads of bling, but at a cool party with classically demure milk maid braids contrasting, and a scruffy leather jacket, it’s almost like the onlooker would be like wow sexy top, but she just threw it on! so cool! i would be afraid of flashing though!
Before seeing these photos I wouldn’t have thought anyone could manage to make a top like that look anything other than slutty, but I certainly stand corrected!!
I think it looks hot – if she had massive massive fake tits (or real ones if she was lucky) then it would look a little (hate this word) slutty. But you could rock this no worries:)

I don’t think all skinny people can get away from not looking slutty. I’ve seen many super skinny girls, especially those with fake tans and blond hair looking very slutty with very little clothing. As other readers are saying, her minimal makeup and braids helps. She’s got quite a sweet face, too.
asians girls can wear things like that without looking slutty i promise. DO IT!
I’m sorry but saying that you aren’t skinny is just a lie, dear. Whether or not you are comfortable wearing a lace top is another story! I spent my boarding school years trying to talk anorexics into eating, so I am super sensitive to this! You have a great bod!
heidi hair is a classic un-slutter. not that this outfit is slutty. or that i dislike slutty. but a prim “do” always puts a check on a looks wild abandon.

I must say, to me at least, she actually is a “spindly stick figure.” She may have a bit of boob, but is definitely skinny! And you know, the camera adds ten pounds so she is likely to be teeny tiny in real life. Perhaps I am seeing things, surely someone must agree? Maybe all our eyes have become too jaded by thin models!
My point being, I’m pretty sure you can get away with a bit of skin too, Susie! Especially since you’re a very similar size, aka, tiny!
Jaded eyes could come into play but I’ve seen her in person too…. she’s very slim but not spindly skinny… I think what I mean by ‘skinny’ is of the extreme supermodel proportions which is where I imagine the top in an editorial context that de-sluttifies it a little… I’m definitely NOT of that spindly skinny ilk… still, i’d have that impulse of putting some safely grey and jersey underneath the top….
It looks alright with the jacket. Because she has small boobs it dosn’t look tarty but it dosen’t look good either.
wow, she looks really good! especially in the second picture, i like her face! i would instinctively always layer a grey shirt under a top like this too, but now i realise that it looks great even without a shirt underneath, in fact she looks even greater without a shirt underneath! and she has a really good body. okay, it is true lacey things don’t look slutty on √ºber-thin people, but runway models just frankly scare the hell out of me because they have bones stickin out of all ends of them. jennifer eym√®re is thin, but not disgustingly so.

She most certainly is skinny, and along with the other reasons cited for not looking cheap (my preferred term), you don’t see ‘her’ under the top, just skin, but not ‘skin’, you know?
And I agree with the comment that the face must be sweet. Skinny but used-up looking with a top like this is total trainwreck. Instead, she looks like a milkmaid siren which is fab.
Susie – you’ve got the sweet face, and a slim, healthy body. I haven’t seen anything you can’t pull of brilliantly, so why not this? Looking forward to seeing your pics!

There is no denying that girls who wear lace and leather at the same time are cool!
In a way everything has to do with context. We know who she is and where she is. If we saw the the boob pic in a party full of Wags in Merseyside she would turn slutty in an instant.
And don’t trust the braids to “de~slut” outfits , there’s a slutty Lolita thing going on in Glamour world that look everything but sweet.
But said that i think she looks great, I don’t think people have to be very skinny to pull this off but small boobs are a must.

my personal take on dressing is all about whatever feels the least inhibiting whether it be comfy shoes – so not a heel person these days, but felt naked without them in college strolling up and down steep terrain – or less restrictive feeling clothing, such as short/tank/t-shirt combo (usually lots of leg and thin, non-transparent fabric)simply because i’d be roasting otherwise.
now i am toned, but not stick thin, and it feel quite comfortable baring as much flesh as this young lady picture, although bike friendly, practical clothing is a different than form fitting lingerie type pieces, but if i owned that shirt it would be put to use.
i think the key is the casualness of the wearer. cause frankly, we all know real fashion reaches it’s zenith when you cease to really think about what you’re wearing.
by the way i could go into a whole music analogy, but i’ll spare you and your readers some serious, verbose ramblings.
