I really like olives with peanut butter. Don’t ask me why. I just do. Salty nuttyness of olives with the slightly salty creaminess of peanut butter just works. I had this precise combination in mind when I read the news that Patricia Field was going to be designing a one-off 35-piece collection for Marks & Spencers. Again, don’t question which party is the peanut butter and which are the olives. There’s just a sense of initial disgust and then final understanding as you smear some PB on the olive.
This is M&S understandably cashing in, taking advantage of the ‘au courant’ qualities of Pat Field, styling the SATC movie and popular TV shows like Ugly Betty. Yet when you look at her own branded label selling the lovable glitz, tack and fluff and also her past collaborations with ASOS which also consist of glitz, tack and fluff, it just seems like the M&S customer who wants to rely on the store as opposed to being excited by it, might not buy into Patricia Field’s penchant for the unexpected and the random.
Though I do believe dear Pat has many clever strings to her bows and seeing as she‚Äôs already decided on basing the collection on ‚ÄòDestination Style New York‚Äô, I‚Äôm thinking the unlikely combo of the two will bode well come October. Target customer probably isn‚Äôt moi but as someone who has been fascinated by Patricia Field‚Äôs work, I expect nothing of the watered down in this upcoming collab…

Well I would never have put those two combinations together. Olives and peanut butter sounds strange and Patricia Field at M&S is very bizzare. I can’t wait to see what they bring out.
I don’t know if this makes M&S suddenly sound lots cooler, or Patricia Field a hundred times dowdier. HMM.
What an odd collab, but I’m intruiged as it is time M&S have a little fun..
i recommend cheese and jam sandwiches if you feel like shaking up the ole packed lunch lol.
Foxtrash: That would be very nice except that I have a real cheese aversion… yes that’s right people, Susie Bubble fears cheese…. mature cheddar in particular…
Let’s see what this wacky combination brings.
Clever old M&S ref cashing in but I do so hope she does do some tacksville – it will be so amusing and mix it all up!

Truly unlikely.
My first instinct was, this is ridiculous. But thinking about it more…maybe peanut butter belongs on more things than I thought.
hehe… my weird food combo is banana & curry porridge oats with milk & sugar my other favorite m&s.
I wish these collabs would come to Canada.
P.S. Olives and peanut butter are two of my fave foods. I’ll have to try that combo…
Olives and peanut butter does not sound that strange to me. In fact, it sounds kinda good, sometimes unlikely combinations are worth trying. You find olives stuffed with almonds in gourmet shops all of the time, so it is really not all that strange.
No cheese for me either Susie.
i think the work she does for SATC is brilliant but i did however take a lookie at her stuff from the links you mentioned. i didnt know she did her own things.
the stuff on her website if horendous. tacky tacky tacky.
although i guess she is sticking to her saying of ‘life is fun. so fashion should be too.’
A very strange combination indeed. I wonder if Patricia Field is settling down into her ‘advanced’ years and actually likes M&S clothes.
wow peanut butter and olives strange. i must try!
wow I didn’t know anyone else liked that combination!
I make peanut butter (smooth, slightly sweet) and olive (green) sandwiches
on toast, and often with a mild cheese as well
usually when no one is around to make fun of me 🙂
