To continue the ‘Out of Context’ theme of today’s posts…. and to do a complete schizo 180 from tasteful 40’s influenced coats to…. um…. well…. behold this Just Cavalli jacket which I spied in the new issue of Elle UK. Of course this passed me by when the SS08 shows were going on because I do tend to strike off Roberto Cavalli and Just Cavalli from my ‘Catwalking Pics-check out’ list. Sorry, I’ve just never been a fan of the rather orange faced Cavalli (tangerine or clementine?) and whilst I’m all about being open minded, there’s only so much one can be enthusiastic about.
Well I’ll just slap myself for that because looking at this jacket, and trust me, it’s not because it’s being aided by the strange pairing of it with an Avsh Alom Gur dress and plaited hair nor is the background helping it along…. I am purely just looking at the jacket… the strong lines, the block colours, the wicked shapes they’re all creating… oh crap, I’m actually….quite liking it?!?
Now I know it’s my love of the the ever present ‘WTF’ factor that is making me like this. I’m also thinking of cliched phrases such as ‘it’s so wrong, it’s right’, only you can cross out the first word and replace it with ‘messed-up/tacky/loud’ and the second word with ‘brilliant/fantastic/hilarious’. Lots of joyful words there….
I’m just reaaaally thinking and this could be the Friday High Feeling, that this jacket with the right bit of toning down or ‘effed-up’ messy outfits (whichever way you prefer…), it’s actually quite a nifty statement piece…
So conclusion…. there just aren’t that many designers for me to pour hate on, and seeing as this blog was never about pouring hate, that makes it a pretty easy job for me.

That is a ridiculously amazing jacket. I think it just made my week. I adore pieces that make you stand out, and scream ‘I got my own style’ without making it tacky or overbearing. Like you said, it needs to be played down, but that’s so easy with a piece like this. Great find, really great find.
i love that jacket too. I’m like u, I don’t ever check out Roberto Cavalli’s catwalk shows – just not really my style but his Spring/Summer 2008 collection is suprisingly covetable. 🙂
I couldn’t help but think of Issey Miyake’s crazy, colorful, and sometimes “so wrong, but so right” jackets when I saw this one!! If you go to pleatspleaseshop.com, you can see all these outfits that they put together. This jacket reminded me of the one I saw on the site! It’s really cool, I think you should check it out!
I agree with skipping over Cavalli’s collections. I always associate him with tacky celebrities for some reason. But the jacket is quite interesting. You could definitely pull it off. As for me I’d take the dress!
I heart that jacket.
The jacket is CUTE. It reminds me to Starbrite (that cartoon girl with the rainbow outfit!!)
wow awesome! btw anyone know that model? i think recognize her… email hajung613@yahoo.com
One of her legs looks bigger than the other. Odd.
Actually, Cavalli has some good pieces in his shows, so I wouldn’t dismiss him so completely. Tho he’s not to my taste overall, he’s capable of surprising one (as he did you w/ that jacket).
The fact that you see many of his loud pieces being worn is all about the tastes of the wearer. It’s not the full range of Cavalli.
I’m quite liking this jacket and I’m not on a Friday high…turns out oompa-loompas can design.
(don’t wanna sound stalkerish but) if you ever come to Seoul you MUST call ME!!!! 😀
we must meet up to shop and EAT!!???? what say you?
I think its brilliant, and it just made me realise agian how we sometimes miss amazing pieces like this, because of the presentation.Sometimes what they put it with can just messes it up completely. I aslo find myself throwing designers out of my interest box, then I don’t look at their stuff anymore and bang….they come up with winners like this.
GREAT FINDING!
Oh and just a personnal question if you do not mind. I hae been trying to get my own blog running,by when I look at yours I get so scared, thinking I will never be able to do it….your blog is just excellent everyday and completely new every single day?How do you do it,what your secret?Do you ever sleep?
i’m so glad that somebody else has admitted this..!
because i always consider cavalli the “Jordan” of fashion (although somewhat less intriguing..)and i didn’t quite know what was happening when the lara stone just cavalli adverts and a few editorials featuring his clothes have caught my eye.
no sequins, limited flesh? tan, yes, but that’s okayyy.
what next? will i be adding carolina herrera to my wishlist?
I’ve never been a huge fan of the Cavalli style either, but I think this just goes to show that you really can take something and make it all your own, irrespective of who or where it’s from..
Cavalli’s clothes always look a bit crap for me, but the jacket certainly has potential esp when worn the S. Bubble way.
That jacket looks like a delicious ice lolly.
Sometimes Cavalli will get it right like he does here – in those rare instances 😉
Wow. I *love* the coat. And neither am I a fan of Cavalli. This is such a good reminder to not dismiss whole collections outright because I don’t like a particular designer. Again and again, designers whom I generally love will come out with stuff I’m not fond of and ones I don’t like will surprise me with something great. Gotta keep it on a piece by piece basis. This is really gorgeous and fun!
i’m ashamed to say that i stay away from looking at some pix when i know who the designer is as well. however i WILL draw the line at juicy couture, but who knows… in the future i might actually end up looking at something quite desirable like this cavalli jacket. never say never i guess…
Ii don’t like cavalli either, but when I saw this jacket in the Mrch issue of i-D it was love at first sight!II think it was in a hairstyles spread and an interview with an important hairdresser, but Ii don’t remember his name!
I like it too. We can be icked-out together.
