Hello 1992

I don‚Äôt usually set a specific scene for an outfit but that‚Äôs the only thing I could think of when I saw that the new Danielle Scutt for Topshop‚Äôs collection‚Äô main focus was going to be denim.   The natural pairing of this Western shirt denim dress (¬£65) and tiger print ‚Äòonesie‚Äô body (¬£28 ) left me to believe that I‚Äôd need to be photographed by Mariano Vivanco if I was to wear them both in an outfit, paired with some white Kickers.  To be even more specific, it really needs to be exactly the same setting as this editorial from the new issue of Dazed & Confused where both Vivanco and Nicola Formichetti created a decaying urban retreat for the landed gentry (love the bits of Barbour cleverly injected throughout the shoot…).  I don‚Äôt really know why I can‚Äôt imagine the outfit in any other context but this one.  Perhaps it‚Äôs the mention of ‚Äòbody‚Äô, ‚ÄòKickers‚Äô and ‚Äòlight denim‚Äô in the same sentence.  Hello 1992 and all that.  The sepia light and the slightly odd scene set-up would favour these purposely dated pieces.  I‚Äôm quite tempted to buy the ensemble when it hits Topshop stores on June 2nd  just to see if that particular Vivanco lighting and setting will find me.

Or I could just add a ‚ÄòBelle Ingenue‚Äô tote and some geek glasses for the oh-so-cool-2008 fash additions to make it all work… (didn‚Äôt mean to make that sound quite as cynical as it did…)

  1. I too plan on embracing the light denim trend for as long as it’s around. Plus, by June 2nd, I should have some nice color to my skin so that it won’t wash me out entirely.

  2. nowadays i associate light denim too much with scruffy indie boys in straw hats. its always better to push boundaries though and there could be alternatives to mix it up with, like maybe a lace corset, fringing, etc

  3. Well, we all know fashion cycles, but perhaps that look is one better left in ’92. I’m pretty sure when I was 8 I had a denim jumper just like that, and I definitely had a pair of lookie-likie Keds.

  4. Danielle Scutt’s collection looks like one of the better TS/designer collabo’s.I usually find them ‘not quite there’ because I am SUCH a fusspot. These look really promising. PS I *heart* Nicola F!
