Coz I’m a supermodel…

f156hair1.jpg

…er ok, not really but I am getting onto explaining why I’m sporting some MAJORLY crimped hair today and why I’ve been a bit lax on the blog posting/commenting front.  So the fantastico Guy Hipwell of Fashion156 who I’ve been contributing for since…um…about as long as I started the blog… asked me to model in the photoshoot for the ‘Fashion on the Internet’ issue and allow Guy to style me for the shoot.  Nope, it wasn’t the ‘Secret Supermodel’ desires coming out of me but actually more like the chance to wear designers that I knew Guy would do a spot-on job of choosing for me and strangely enough as it turned around, I ended up wearing a lot of things that I’ve written about on the blog…. an apt symmetry that works for this particular issue of Fashion156.

Of course there is the issue of getting me to look like a model and fitting into hazardous sample sizes.  Solution?  Mad crazily big crimped hair which hair stylist Kiri did a fantastic job even though it looked so dangerously intricate, I was too scared to ask how he did it all…

It also took a whited-over Kabuki-mask-esque face and super strong eyes that make-up artist Anita and Guy had to keep deliberating over and I think I lost count of how many times they restarted the make-up.  So a lot of potions and lotions to get me looking….well….not like me….

Fortunately it was an unfamiliar territory that I was happy to go along with and just give myself over to, as opposed to the bronzed-up-blue eyeshadow land that I’ve been taken to before….  not a good place to be but today was a different kettle of fish altogether….a madly-surreal-out-of-this-world sort of fish… fugu fish perhaps?

The tights boxes that Fashion156 hold is pretty comprehensive requiring a tights librarian to sort it all out, Elliot Sainsbury being tasked with the job here…

The full credits list of what I wore will of course be revealed when the pics come out in a few weeks time but suffice to say my heart jumped out when I saw what Guy had pulled for me… and I was like an overexcited child shouting out names that I knew, that I had written about, that made me feel odd as I wondered whether the designer would be happy seeing non-modelesque me wearing their precious wares…  (ultimately that last thought flew out as the relief of fitting into everything made me elated and now I’ve gladly come home to a heaping plate of chilli and guacamole…)

The eagle eyed of you will spot the things which I’ve featured on the blog…

Some eye-candy for you if you’re into great bone structure and all of that…. I believe James here is in the current Prada SS08 campaign.  He’s going to be in the accompanying menswear editorial for Fashion156…. oh well, at least I’m going to be to be outshined by a guy with very high cheekbones and good eyebrows….

Jonathan Kelsey shoes are wickedly lush… wicked like I need to take out a credit card for them pronto and lush because they’re….well….lush…

As I said, the pics will reveal the reality (well the product anyway!) of what happened later on but here’s me beaming in a ton of ensembles and accessories that probably a lot of models wouldn’t be that geekily excited to be wearing… hence why I’m happy to gush behind the scenes and am gladly not model material…

  1. You look amazing in every outfit!!
Cant wait to see the final images….
    Loving the Jeremy Scott sunglasses!!
    x

  2. like a kid in a candy store! what a great opportunity and wowza, the hair and the make-up are just fantastic!! really inspires my recent thoughts that make-up and hair can be nearly as important and effective as outfits themselves

  3. This is incredibly amazing Susie! You quite often referred to your “non-modelesque figure” in this post but I really have to say that it doesn’t matter a bit! Not one bit! I’m so happy to see a heavily-styled editorial without a professional model! I’m quite tired of hearing designers and fashion insiders pull out the same tired excuse over and over. Clothes shouldn’t “hang” well. They should be worn! Worn with confidence and attitude!

  4. this is so cool I can’t talk about it. finally getting to wear clothes and designers you blog about must be an amazing feeling 🙂

  5. wow, you look amazing and the clothes literally made my eyes pop out! you must’ve had the best day. i can’t wait to see the finished shots.
i feel like getting the crimper out. well, i would if i had one.

  6. You look pretty modelesque to me here! It must have been so exciting getting to try on all those amazing pieces, I can’t even imagine. I’m psyched to see the editorial!

  7. That’s wicked that you get to wear all those great clothes, and shoot for them after contributing for so long. Lucky, lucky!

  8. One thing I’ve noticed with your blog is your looks are a bit of a mystery. You are always somewhat obscured by your bangs, poses, etc. And that has totally worked to the advantage of your blog–’cause it’s about the clothes. Plus the mystery is cool. But you look awesome in these photos!!! How fun for you {and us}. What I like is that while you are clearly fabulous looking, the looks they have you in aren’t that generic “I am pretty” mode. Just really interesting. LOVE IT.

  9. How exciting! You are a lucky girl. And pshaw, no male model can outshine you, you look fantastic in the clothes…though I prefer you without the mask-like make up!

  10. Cool! Great fun, great shoes, great hair. I’m happy for you, it sounds like you had a good time.

  11. Wow! What fun. The ultimate dressing up box! You look amazing too: LOVE the hair & make-up. Am wondering about the surname of the make-up artist? LLG xx

  12. You are so beautiful! Great inspiring outfits! No one else could have looked as you good in them.

  13. WOW is about the only word I can think of right now- you look fantastic, Susie! (and any designer who wouldn’t be proud to have you modelling their wares would be daft)- it’s great to know the dressing-up experience was a nice one, and all props to Guy for making it that way!

  14. I am so excited to see these! It’s fun to see people dolled up by someone with a different perspective, especially when it hearkens back to the susie style we all know and love.

  15. This looks so exciting and fun!
Thanks for posting all these photos, its fun to see what goes on behind the scenes… and imagine you were there 😉

  16. dear susie
thank you for a great shoot yesterday. i had wanted to style you for ages, as knew you would “get” the clothing and kind of looks i had in my mind. sometimes i see a look of fear and dread as i put some ott outfit on one of our lovely models we usually work with! but with you it was just smiles and a totally open mind!
And here is proof i think for the world to see that susie bubble is officially model size! and even though i wanted a non-pretty vibe for you, with make-up, you still look gorgeous, so hopefully no more “hate” posts about weight gain will be seen here, some of these samples were a size 8 at max!!!
Just going through the actual pictures and they look amazing. the snaps you have here do no justice to how great you looked on set with lighting and all the finishing touches.
thks so much for giving up your sunday! see you soon . guy xx

  17. Just looking at those red and white wingtips makes me dizzy with envy! I also really like that round sunglass/goggle-esque contraption; it reminds me of pandas~
Looking forward to your editorial spread. It shall undoubtedly be fierce.

  18. i wish we had more models like you… that actually looked happy in the clothes they’re wearing.

  19. wow. everything looks ‘oh so theatrical’ and ‘oh so you’. heh heh
now i’m so excited to see the final product. you know, boofy hair kinda suits you. 😀

  20. awww, you look great!
I actually really like the hair, as I pretty much do that exact same thing everyday 😉 I’m all about the crimping.

I think you look awesome with crimped hair.

  24. Yay!!!!! This is great, I cannot wait to see the final pics! Looks like the most fun day in the world, playing dressup and taking pics!

  25. oh my gosh… how fun is that? even though you say you aren’t model material, i bet you had a great time, and the pictures came out lovely too!

  26. Great to see your face in the photos, not just peeping shyly out from behind your hair! And the hair, well if anyone could carry off crimping it would have to be Style Bubble!

  27. Oh wow! Looks like you had so much fun! I’m so happy to see that you got excited with all the great clothes and shoes and accessories, I think it’s great you got to do it. The teaser pictures are fab, but like everyone else, I can’t wait to see the professional ones 🙂

  28. You make quite an awesome model! Given your excitement at the opportunity to wear all those fabulous things, I think that natural happiness will come through in the picture and make the editorial even more special. Like everyone else, I can’t wait to see the “final product.”
And I also love the behind the scenes pics.

  29. I’m so happy for you – I think prancing around in amazing clothes is every fashion-lover’s dream! Those SHOES! Drool!
