Nikicio wants to be loved

I don‚Äôt necessarily believe that collections need to be totally cohesive, flowing correctly and making complete sense.  Disjointed, unrelated clothes that still fit together as if you were peering into a person‚Äôs wardrobe work in their own way too.  Nina Nikicio, is behind the label Nikicio, which is based in Indonesia (yay for the far flung fashion that is coming through via the awesomeness that is the internet…..) and she is out to combine practicality and humour and quite pointedly be anti-fashion which shows through the images, a collaboration amongst friends.

We have recognisable things like the tuxedo jacket, the tailored jacket, the trench, the shirt dress and oxford shoes but they‚Äôve gone a little wayward…. added belt loops, coat tails, huge collars, oversized cutting,  lopping off the sleeves…. I know I go on and on about ‚Äòadded twists‚Äô in labels, but Nikicio has been quite measured with her whimsies.  The fabric choices seem to also support her decisions to go with this concept of creating items that are to be worn a lot, with a lot of personal attachment to them.

Nina says ‚ÄúI want the collection to be personal, a part of a person‚Äôs everyday life, but we all know that people hide sometimes, and I try to bring them a comfortable place to conceal, take the load off, and dress up.‚Äù  I do wonder that it must be hard to keep the wearer in mind whilst indulging in a designers‚Äô own desires and she seems to have done both.

For instance she goes mad and a bit random with this quilting on the bags and embroidery on the dress and I think we have found another example of someone wanting to wear their bags….(glad I wasn‚Äôt the only crazy person…)!

Love the different quilting designs on the bags that are like childhood illustrations on fluffy clouds.

The blanket is also part of the collection too, an overriding sign of providing comfort?

But back to the sharp tailoring and I guess most people would think there is a lack of continuity…. but then again I‚Äôm the sort of person who can‚Äôt streamline their outfit to completely ally myself with one style.  I am that girl wearing a sharply cut cape jacket whilst carrying a rainbow quilted bag.

  1. it’s like u said, peering into someone’s closet. i know i dont dress in only one style, i love my tuxedos as much as i love maxi dresses.
that little gun necklace in the last picture though caught my eye.

  2. Oh a day like today, when it was sooo difficult for me to wake up and dress like a real person, I am so yearning for this collection. Comfort & style? Who could ask for anything more? Except maybe to get back into bed with that adorable quilted blanket…

  3. I love her stuff!!! theyre well-structured pieces that hang properly.. I’m fortunate enough to be able to buy a few things (a shirtdress from a previous collection, a tshirt and skirt..) and i LOVE them!

  4. Hi Susie, I was the girl who asked you about prom! I was just wondering what you would wear, eg. what era and what style. I find your fashion sense really inspiring and was wondering what you would wear if you personally were going to prom? Thanks again, Sarah

  5. Nice to know that the ways are changing and it’s not just NY/LN/PR that are the hubs of fashion design.
these pieces are bloody marvelous, i must say and the blazers remind me of the SS08 YSL versions that I loved so much.

  6. Hi Susie,

Sarah UK, If it was me, I’d go for the easy breezy 20’s flapper girl. Loose, short-ish dresses that won’t obstruct me from having fun. Plus I love the pastel/silvery colours these dresses often come in….

  8. I’m in love with ALL of the bags! I’m not sure what fabric they’re actually made of, but I’m picturing a cool soft cotton (quilted!) It would be my perfect summer bag.
Candid Cool – I’m not sure who made the necklace in the pic, but check out my friend Elaines jewelry, here:

They’re very much along the same lines, and her quality is amazing. She hand sculpts the designs in wax, then has them cast in gold or silver, then hand polishes them. They’re stunning!

  9. Oh wow, I love the bags!!!!!
I wonder how I would be able to acquire one, they’re so interesting.

  10. Hello,
The bags are made of soft fluffy cotton (just like the blanket) & hand embroidered by the designer herself. the back is actually the colorful triangular patchwork (: & yes we ship internationally!
