The Next Untouchable Gold

goldpleat.jpg

GoldpleatVintage shopping can be wretched when something you’ve fallen for quite hard and deeply, and it can be wrenched away from you just like that.  More so on eBay when the clock is ticking and those opposing bids are piling up.

This black strapless dress with a gold lame fan pleating detail from Kuku Vintage had me clicking and reclicking the link just to read the measurements again.  The waist is sadly too wee for my me.  Sure I could kid myself into thinking ‘Yes, an extra inch or two will come off’ but with my affection for Cake Therapy, that sadly isn’t going to happen.

But to wheover is svelte enough, a gold fan fronting the dress is one of those structural details that I squeal at and look for when going vintage shopping and snap up straight away.  So were it not for my el chunko tendancies, this would have been an absolute steal.  Go forth my small-waisted fashion soldiers and get ye some gold pleated lame…

  1. It just my size!!…. This dress has given me an idea to customize one of my own dress…..thanks!!

  2. I saw that dress yesterday, and I fell in love! Hopefully all this attention won’t inspire so many high-priced bids that it will never reach me… I am just barely small enough to fit, but that’s due to my tiny bones, not to any love of cake.

  3. being slightly bigger than a 24″ waist is not el chunko. at least i hope not!
still, lovely dress. i wouldn’t fit into it either.

  4. Really gorgeous – thanks for posting this Susie as it is giving me good ideas to customise one of my own, as like the the others above, I would no way be able to fit into this without busting the seams!

  5. Fab dress! Very few people over the age of 16 with a 24″ waist though… Prob why there’s so few bids on it!

  6. Ahh yes, One of the ones that got away. I must admit that occasionally I am guilty of “fit-shopping”, you know-“If I buy it it’ll inspire me to go to the gymn” which is why on a semi regular weekly basis I have to give my computer to my roommate to keep away from me til an auction is over.

  7. Fabulous dress…this seller has awesome stuff, one well worth bookmarking! Susie, do you have a list of ebay vintage sellers worth frequenting? I hate sifting through the junk! If you don’t have such a list, can you make one?

  8. check out ebay seller indiecultvintage…they have an amazing vintage YVES Saint Laurent dress up for auction right now. they are always a favorite…the most unique pieces and amazing variety.

  9. This is breathtaking.
Besides the bid wars, I think the other thing that’s heartbreaking about vintage is that the waists are often so tiny. Not just because women have gotten bigger over time but also because none of us where foundation garments like they used to.

  10. Oh Susie I am eternally grateful to you; I’ve been searching for a prom dress for months and this dress is absolute perfection.
I yearn for this dress, although if another one of your readers win the auction at least I know it’s going to a good home.
    Thank you 😀

  11. i saw this too! (we appear to be connected to the same ebay sellers) absolutely love it!! but possibly too small for me too, gutted 🙁
    love your blog x

  12. Didn’t I see this fantastic vintage dress on Threadbanger? The prom episode? I believe so. Lovely eye.

  13. Hey! That YSL dress of Indiecultvintage y’all liked so much? Guess you don’t have very good eyes, because it was a FAKE!
