This is a mountain that has been festering under my bed. This is uncontrollable. This is the attack of the skirts. My name is Susie and I’m a skirt-aholic but I knew this along. I just never quantified that and after a surprisingly laborious amount of time spent counting my beloved skirts…. I have…. and yes this has been verified by the National Adjudicator of Skirts….278 skirts….
My skirt box has ashamedly encroached into my main wardrobe space and it’s a bit of self-delusion when trying to fit the number of skirts that I do into this box and even after much squishing and squashing, it is just a fact that I must accept that there are simply too many. Will I edit? Will I cut down? ‘Fraid not because I know that this is a temporary state of squishing and squashing as hopefully come May, I’ll be out of my poky ickle place and moving to a place where skirt-aholicism will be welcomed and accomodated.

278 skirts?????? i would seriously cut down. i mean, you DO experiment much, but do you seriously get the chance to wear them all? i’m sure there are many similar ones in your collection! ok i have many too (for my measures) but only…like…15 or so

i don’t know what’s more impressive, the fact that you have that many skirts or the fact that you could be bothered to count them.

Wow! You could open a shop with that amount! Also what is it about the end of Feb that makes people want to do some Spring Cleaning? I have seriously got to tackle my wardrobe – it is heaving with stuff and the pole is bending in the middle through the sheer weight of all the hangers!
Not sure how you managed to find the time to count all those skirts! And moving to a bigger place hmm….moving in with the boyf perhaps?! Well either way, good luck shifting all those skirts (and the rest of your closet) to a bigger place!

I mostly wear skirts or dresses but my skirt count is still somewhere under 10! I do a big clean out about once a year to keep my clothes fitting in my tiny storage space and I give away anything I haven’t worn in the past year unless I really really love it or it has sentimental value. Still I’m pretty sure I haven’t had 278 skirts in my whole life! You might have a place in the Guinness Book of Records girl!

wow! and I felt bad for finding 100 odd dresses squashed in all my nooks and crannies… I like how they’re all rolled up for easy i.d’ing! Still, do you ever need to empty out the whole lot to find that…one…elusive item, buried in the bottomest corner?

Oh dear… I don’t know whether it’s a good thing or not that I’m making people feel better about their own wardrobe overflow…..! I must say though that frequent shopping trips to Hong Kong, charity shop expeditions and vintage bulk buys has resulted in a majority of the skirts and that if we’re talking about skirts I’ve spent serious money on, it’s only about 20…
I’m a compulsive hoarder and can’t throw away anything but when I move into my new place, I fully intend to put up washing lines in one room just to display some of my skirts…. actually a lot of my new place will ‘for the sake of fashion’ and the boyf agrees so it should be fun to see and blog about…

Could I advise you that the best possible way to overcome this problem would be to edit down your collection and donate the castaways to me? Please? Perhaps you should tackle the rest of your wardrobe in this way…?
Susie – have posted piece today about clearing out wardrobe. But for you the most improtant bit is about storage – please press all your skirts and store as recommended – if not I’ll come round and do it!
