The bird just came and sat on my head…

This seems to be the week where I’m ticking things off a very specific shopping list.  Osman Yousefzada for Mango dress.  Check.  Toothpaste.  Check.  Big black crow headband.  Check.  Dress, dental care, bird on the head.  I’m pretty much set for the weekend now.

So it wasn’t just all talk as I did indeed procure a black crow headband from the wonderful Buddug Wyn Humphreys and spent my now free Fridays (I’m trying to think of as many alliterating phrases to describe the fact that I no longer work on Fridays…fantastic, fabulous, fabby, freaking, fierce – it’s all too much for me really…) perching the bird on my head and walking so that my head doesn’t droop too much as to de-mount the bird.  The crow definitely deserves much better than a slouchy stance from myself and to defiantly walk out of the door with it on, it would really have to be shoulders back, swan-neck and head held high.  However, to make it convincing as a piece of legitimate headwear as opposed to ‘Crazy lady with a bird head’, my initial trick is probably ignoring the existence of the bird entirely, hence a fairly low-key, minimal outfit that goes kind of like ‘Yanked on this elasticated skirt, slipped into a slinky pleated top, shrugged on the Lanvin tuxedo jacket, and stepped into the Sergio Rossi wedges.’  Yes, of course, there is NATURALLY a crow on my head.  Nothing to look at over here whatsoever…  it is supposed to be there…

  1. This blog entry just reminded me of a stupid pigeon that flew into my face when I was walking in central London a few days ago, I was on my own and screamed like a crazy woman.. I hate pigeons, flying rats indeed. .. I felt so… diseased.
Of course, your headband isn’t a pigeon (but would you ever wear a pigeon version?).. it’s a crow, and does look rather charming!
.. it’s great that you have Friday’s off! Super long weekend!
I have another ‘f’ word for you that’s driving me a bit bonkers actually, ‘fantazmagazal’ .. it’s in that Orange advertisement with Snoop Dogg.. and they play it every single time before the film starts at the cinema… and I go all the time, I really wish they’d change it!

  2. Cool. I like the look of the dove hairclip on her website aswell. ‘Crazy lady with a bird head’lol.

  3. uhm ok having a crow on your head still takes me a bit to get used to it – however, I’m loving the very fierce lady chic (emphasis on fierce!), so femme fatale somehow, very stylish. These wedges are rather amazing with the b/w splatters and all. But whom am I telling this.

  4. It’s a bit Isabella Blow, a bit Miss Haversham, a bit crazy bag lady and a whole lot you Susie. You should definitely get a black veil to go with that outfit.

  5. What does a raven have in common with a writing desk?
This is the kind of ensemble that makes my knees turn to jelly because it’s so lovely. It’s simple enough to highlight the bird headpiece, interesting enough to draw a second/third/fourth etc look – I love it when you do minimal!

  6. oh wow, it is… very big… I love how it looks set to take flight. and I agree, a black veil would be so perfect with it!

  7. Wow, it’s very different! I kinda like it though, you make it into a whole otfit rather than just a bird on a headband headband, and it just looks original and fun and interesting 🙂

  8. I was a bit skeptical of the bird at first, but I have to say you really rock it in that outfit. And to be honest, I’m kind of drooling over the jacket, skirt, and shoes- they’re really great!

  9. I think this is my favourite of all the outfits you’ve ever worn. If I saw you on the street, I’d automatically want to be your friend. I’m obsessed.
    Love,
    Becky.

  10. Oh, *awesome!* I have some tiny birds to fix onto a headband (little finches, my favorite), but there is absolutely no ignoring that crow with his wings up! The important question is, does it have a name? I would have one at the ready, because I’m sure people will ask!

  11. I’m actually rather acquainted with the black crow accessory. We receive Taiwanese channels in Singapore, and a couple of years back one of the Taiwanese talkshow hosts wore a black crow on his shoulder to host one of the major Taiwanese award shows.
But I digress – I think you wear that headband very well, and your outfits seem to reflect somehow that you’ve embraced more basics/simple silhouettes. (:

  12. I could never wear a big black crow on my head. I couldn’t even be in the same room as that hairband. Birds terrify me.

  13. wow, I think only you can pull of a crow on your head Susie, you look like a elegant and eccentric English aristocrat 😉

  14. This is my absolute favorite outfit of yours yet. It almost seems to me that while your style is maintaining all of its eclectic craziness, it is also getting distinctly more “fashiony,” which, in my opinion is a good thing. You look wonderful, and I hope you did indeed wear this outfit out.

  15. i thought of isabella blow too! if i saw you i might think you were in a play or going to a carnival, it would be so fun to see people’s reactions, especially from afar. i’m sure if you were going down one of those huge escalators on the underground everyone on the opposite side would be looking!

  16. I think you can definitely go all-out with it, this isn’t a look that is subtle! Please do let us know what the outside world thinks of your little pet. I could not get away with this; the only way it would look natural on me is if there were droppings on my hair.

  17. ‘Yanked on this elasticated skirt, slipped into a slinky pleated top, shrugged on the Lanvin tuxedo jacket, and stepped into the Sergio Rossi wedges.’ Yes, of course, there is NATURALLY a crow on my head.
i think you have the perfect attitude to carry this off! of course it’s part of the ensemble!

  18. no work on Fridays? tell us how do you convince your boss to do so!!!
oh i like the fact that you dress down a bit when you wear a crow on your head. there’s no point in accentuating everything from head to toe, one is enough (for example wearing eccentric hat) and you prove it very well. xxx

  19. I found this informative and interesting blog so i think so its very useful and knowledge able. Thanks for taking the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love learning more on this topic. Keep it up!!!

  20. The bird came AND sat on your head? Which did it do first? And more importantly, how long did it take to wash out of your hair?
