Some people have a real distaste for all those murky inbetween colours that are neither here nor there. Dusky pink, mink, nude, taupe. Something to do with a fear of clashing with one’s skin tone. Well my non-pink based skin means that all of the following will sit happily against my skintone.
Actually, that last sentance is a pithy fash/beauty stereotype that means nothing to me. I have not a clue what skintone I have and I have never given a second thought about what is clashing with it and what isn’t. I’m not even sure if people actually still talk about things ‘clashing with their skintone’ or not because to me, it reads like one of those 1970’s style manuals that I see in charity shops. All I know is that I’m loving these bags in shades of skin. The fact is these type of colours’ wishy-washy neutrality mean that they are as essential to me as black and white are to a lot of people.
As a very infrequent BIG bag purchaser (by big, I’m not referring to size but the investment of funds required…), I look for colours that will work on most occasions. Black is too easy. Brown is too earthy. Blue has too many shades to decide on one. Grey has been ticked off. So I’ll turn to skin instead. As per usual, I’m still obsessed with Liberty’s line of accessories which seem to re-use themes every season in a slightly different way. It’s the sort of consistency that I like to see. I also like the bone handles they have incorporated as hardware.
Charlott Vasberg is another personal bag label fave and she has basically reproduced her popular shapes in all shades of a lighter palette for the new season.

These are colors I wear in garments, always. They really do suit me. I am a true neutral and do not look good in bold color.
However, your remark about skin tone brings me to reveal this delightful dialogue with an SA at a Sephora:
Me: I’m looking for a nude lipstick with a pink base.
SA: Oh, that won’t work.
Me: Why not?
SA: Because you have yellow skin.
Me: That’s self-tanner, dude.
I love the Vasberg bags although I say, I’m more into striking colors. Nude lipsticks doesn’t do me any good either. I look sick. Kudos to all women who can wear nude/pale colors though. It is very difficult to apply make up that make you look like you haven’t got any and I admit, I can’t do it myself.
I love these colored bags. I have yet to own any othe rbag besides black and brown. Can you say boring? I think its time to step out of the box.
I really like nude (colour!)accessories, so easy to match with everything!
oh, i LOVE the dusty-rose colour in Liberty’s bags…
mmmm
somehow, i think it would clash horribly with ginger..
These colours are what I think of as dusky, so delicate and go with everything. You just have to remember not to put them down on the floor!
Nude is my favorite color! This is my favorite vintage bag: http://moodboard.typepad.com/my_weblog/2007/11/style-shot-in-t.html
The Charlotte Vasberg one on the top left is gorgeous.
is ‘liberty’ named after the model (liberty ross)or is it just coincidental
its so frustrating to be without a scanner !
i’ve put a picture up now, it’s very lovely (:
I am a fan of bolder colours (like the forest green Anna Sui bag I got a couple of days ago in New York) but I love the top bags in your post with the tooled leather – divine. And the neutral shade would go with almost anything.
*there’s something frighteningly cannibalistic about those bags, especially the one in the middle of the last row. could be just me though, I tend to avoid nudes like the proverbial plague, despite my skin tone being nothing near any shade of ivory/pink
That’s a great idea for a neutral purse! I’m very guilty of buying black…
I love the Charlotte Vasberg bags, especially the bigger ones.
oh my goodness…thank you so much…
that’s like. the best compliment, ever…
(referring to the spewing of pearls…i’m not sure where the right place to reply is!)

I like the tall Charlott bags to the left. I never really thought of a nude bag before but it seems like a cool idea.
The Charlotte Vasberg bags are oh so nice! I cant see any nude ones on the site though, wonder how much they are? Pricey??
eva longoria has this gorgeous B&D Kan Kan ruffled tote that she was caught with in early decemeber – it was nude and beautiful.
the link is below if you wish to see .

I volunteer as a girl’s choir assistant and the choir director never lets them wear green or yellow because they “clash with Asian skintones.”
I say screw it to all that. It’s so dated to avoid certain colors just because someone at some point in time said it “clashed” with your coloring.
I love these bags and I never considered a nude-toned bag before…
I probably shouldn’t admit this but it’s late, and I’m tired so I’ll throw it out there. Midway through the post I decided I didn’t give a crap about skin tones because I was so distracted by those beautiful, beautiful, bags. Golly, you make me wish I had good taste.
oh thank you for you sweet comment lovely ‚ô• your blogs is amazing and fabulous too , sorry if I didn’t comment more but I have so much problems for understand english sometimes 🙁 I wait for post who are not too difficult for me to understand , i m sorry 🙁 but I can enjoy the beautiful pictures 🙂
yes I’m obsessed with the Feist remix too 😉
love from France
I covet that initial series of bags…with those ornate, curved fixtures on either side of the handles. Absolutely lovely.
Funny, I just did a whole post on Feist, including the Feist Mushaboom remix, which I adore. (re above comment)
Funny how some of you have said you have never thought of nude as a handbag colour…such a ‘base’ sort of colour… more so than grey or brown really…
Suzanna: Lol! Sephora SA’s do give me the chuckles….
Miss J: I’m not into nude lipstick as it would take a lot of nude to hide my bright pink lips (they are ridiculously pink…)
Annah: NVM about the clashing…if you like it, go for it! I hope to see more scanned faces…even if it does hurt a little… am I a tad selfish?
Moodboard: Love that super clutch…. such a good size!
Lora: No, Liberty is named after the department store in London, established by Arthur Lasenby Liberty http://www.liberty.co.u
Passementerie: I’m a fan of bold colours too but I tend to buy vintage bags in bolder colours and spend a little more on a bag in a more neutral colour.
fmg: I see what you’re saying but I sort of oddly like that quality… I think I’m the weird one!
Aussieborn: Oooh… I love the size of her bag actually… the ruffles reminds me of Anne Valerie Hash bags…
bun2bon: What a funny thing to say from a ‘choir director?!?’….that’s mental…
Jumberjill: I got distracted too…I started off with some sort of sensical point about skintones but realised I knew nothing and the bags are gorge anyway so who really cares at the end of the day?
Mash: Your blog is ever so pretty… makes me think I need to change up my layout a little!
Eclat: Feist is indeed wondrous… picks me up on a rough day…
I love nude bags, the bone coloured Charlott Vasberg in the bottom left hand corner is gorgeous.
I also tagged you in my last post.
I like nude bags. I didn´t know the label Charlott Vasberg, but it looks great
i adore the vasberg bags, are they available online? i know they’re in selfridges but sadly i’ve been moved away from london for a couple of months by work! i want!
Wow… a lot of love for Vasberg… price wise, they are not cheap… but worth it for the quality I would say… circa ¬£150-¬£400.
Unfortunately, availability online is pretty shoddy and Selfridges is the only port of call for these bags… that I know of anyway… perhaps contacting Vasberg directly might get you a direct order with her?
I love all those murky nudey colors…
