I did think I had to scratch my head a little when I saw the latest Colette newsletter declaring that next season will be all about the neons. *More head scratching* Wasn’t it all about neons for spring summer 2007. Ah no… it was all about neons in the London enclave where club kids were dancing about splashing fluro-paint on each other. In the REST OF THE WORLD, I don’t think neon was rampaging down the streets and on the catwalks it has lingered on for a bit in dribs and drabs. Ergo, Dr. Martens neon boots for SS08 don’t come as a complete surprise. Forgive me for this, but I am well and truly drawn to them when put in the context of pairing them with similarly fluro-florals and in that context only! Given the Dr. Martens appearances in harsher/grungier collections (Yohji Yamamoto and Chloe – an interpretation of DM….), wearing these neon ones with girlier, flirtier ensembles seems to make sense as a way of trend mutation/progression. It’s also an updated version of donning black DM’s with Laura Ashley floral dresses.
Hopefully I’ll find a way of getting away with this without either being labelled a ‘has-been nu rave kid’. I’ll just have to pump up the florals to add some much needed confusion.

haha… the american rag store has been pushing docs for a few months now.. my feet were saying ‘horray!’ but my eyes were saying ‘niggah, pleeze’

Oh dear, those yellow and orange ones were around in 1996 on my 11-year-old best friends’ feet – I had purple ones myself decorated with Animals of Farthing Wood shrinkles… I’ll stick to a black pair methinks.
Yike, those shoes look like a (non-DM, but similar) pair I had when I was eleven…for some reason, I remember being at a birthday party in those plus a denim pinafore. I’ll have to try to rid myself of those memories before assessing these. But the colour here doesn’t seem to have taken the stompiness away- and stompiness, for me, is what Doc Martens/similar were all about.
Oh man I’m yearning for some old school Docs too! Love the yellow.
Hmm, I think you’re on to something there Susie. Neon+grunge=hasn’t been done yet for sure. One for the ‘ I wouldn’t wear it but it would look on the page’ fashion editor brigade (ie me)

Flowery DM’s are great too but there’s a particular print that I’m after that they don’t seem to do anymore….I think print re-issues are in order…

I have good news for the short women of the world, knee-length and slightly above the knee-length skirts are the strong trend for Spring ‘08. The news is also good for taller women in that these skirts will still be long enough for you too. The trend for spring is showing a fuller style skirt that is slimming on most figures.
While skirt lengths have become shorter, we are seeing fewer skirts and pants and far more dresses. Look for lots of dresses this season in many different styles, including button down shirt-types.
