I quite literally snorted with laughter on the Tube as I read Christopher Hart’s review in The Sunday Times of the new restaurant ‘Texture’ in London. Every dish was supposedly covered a muscus like foam and tea was served in test tubes. Still, what is hard to work with successfully in food is an altogether different matter in fashion.
Aerluxe is an online boutique based in New York that stocks mostly indie American designers that are what most would describe as ‘effortless chic’. I normally have trouble getting my head round this misleading oft-used phrase as it’s not something that I clamour for in my clothes. However, when there are genuinely interesting things going on in these ‘easy/breezy’ pieces, I can’t possibly object. Funnily enough, my favourite pieces from Aerluxe are full of texture and rather foam-like in colour (assuming that you all feel that foam is neutral in colour and quite airy and light). Lightweight fleece, soft cashmere, wispy mohair and distressed leather all in airy, cloudy colours.
I’ll say no to the ‘vermilion foam that suggests a slug that has just encountered a particularly venomous pellet‘ that was slopped over a pumpkin, walnut and stilton dish at Texture and a big yes to Aerluxe’s foamy softly delish pieces.
P.S. I should really be turned off by any mention of food considering how much I ate over the holidays but what can I say… I’m a self-confessed grubby fingered foodie…

The hooded plazer is amazing, dare I say perfect!
I enjoyed that thoroughly immense article myself yesterday! I enjoy AA Gill but Mr.Hart is certainly more than capable.
The frocks are quite beautiful.
DCB.
Are they STILL doing foam on food? Oh, they must. I see Ramsay’s got some kind of crayfish claw sticking out of foam, so it must still be viable (even if Top Chef says otherwise).
LOVE that hooded blazer. Hoods are hugely underrated.
The restaurant sounds horribly pretentious. I love the silver boots!
I love the hooded blazer – it’s gorgeous and it’s just a fresh idea!
Oh! The blazer and the pom-pom dress! Together, they would be so earthy yet so futuristic… not to mention cozy.
That grey hoodie blazer is amazing…it reminds me of monks. Which is a good association!
And Mr Hart is very, very funny- by the end of the article, I actually felt as bad for the staff as he seemed to. Hopefully the chefs will clean up their act..
I am in love with that hooded blazer, I would kill for that piece!!!
oh my god, i love those tashkent booties. i just bought some online at bleuclothing.com ON SALE… but in pale baby blue. these silver metallic ones are fresh!
the good part of christmas bonus, is a nice chunk of money.
the bad part of christmas bonus is blowing it all on january sales.
😉
Oh, I am an emerging foodie myself…
I am thinking about starting to post food reviews on my blog, so I was enthusiastic to read your textured description.
Incidentally, I think ‘airy and cloudy’ is where fashion will go next…
i love that hooded blazer too!!!
As a frequent London diner i share Hart’s hatred of foam it’s just a pointless version of sauce – thanks for the link he’s a great writer.
Loving the hooded blazer, reminds me of my mother’s wedding dress, a cream hooded affair that she donned in 1972 for the big day (much to my grandmother’s disgust, although she managed to persuade my mum against the same dress in black! – shame)
the tashkent by cheyenne boots are actually exceptionally uncomfortable to wear. they feel more like stiletto heels than boots, the appearance of slouchy comfort is deceiving! the material is actually quite stiff and the heel/bottom wears out quickly. also if anyone ends up getting them, you should size up at least a half size.
however i like mine so much that i wear them anyway, despite these disappointments.
Thanks for that insight Sarah… hmmm.. I wasn’t ever going to buy them… but they did look deceivingly cute…
