I’m sold on the Soldes

soldes1.jpg

They don’t do things by halves in Paris do they?  Sample sales with guest lists and even the sales for the normal people are pretty awesome.  I’ve heard about the absolutely mint discounts Parisians get in their summe and winter sales yet I’ve never managed to catch the city of lights during the period of soldes.  It’s a tad scary how they have a proper swish website dedicated to the sales; ‘Soldes by Paris’, complete with shopping circuit maps and a day planner where they even advise you where to nosh in between exhaustive trips around the shops carrying heaving bags.  The excitement over the beginning of the soldes which started two days again is evident here.  Sounds like madness but because I’m a bit of a masochist when it comes to fashion, I quite like the idea of becoming mentally obsessed with the bi-annual shopfest and torturing myself about whether I’ll nab such-and-such in my size in time.  Sadly, when I’m counting my beans (I do mean beans in the literal sense of counting my cans of baked beans that I can survive on…), jetting off to Paris to cause myself injury over a dress or two is farfetched even for me.

Instead, I’ve turned to the bitch-fight-free world of online and found that Gaspard Yurkievich now has a newish e-shop which yup – you’ve guessed it – has a 50% sale going on.  I’m quite taken with the idea of being overwhelmed by a gigantic bow so I’m loving these pieces, especially in the pale pink.  I once had an idea of constructing a dress that would have me engulfed by a gigantic bow but it never came to fruition because I fear the shape would swallow me up entirely.  The reality is though, I’d probably get more wear out of the sheer draped tanks so that is a rare sensible side of Susie coming out there.

My first physical interaction though with Yurkievich was via his range of pretty hoisery.  Reason being because of my tight pursestrings of course and now the sale is on, I spy some loose yellow cotton over-knee socks and many tights with butterfly patterns that I will snap up sharpish…
The shoes are a little off my spring agenda but in sale, sale, sale mode, they’ll come in handy sometime soon again.

  1. Dear Susie.
This is not related to your post BUUUT
I have now been in London for a couple of years, however I do not have insider information that the born and bred does.. 😉 meaning you, so where can I find a dry cleaners that will alter dresses pants for really cheap? I live in Swiss Cottage so somewhere around there would be ideal.
    Thanks for a wonderful blog!

  2. I love that top pair of grey shoes, I am really drawn to grey shoes at the moment and I love suede and patent leather

  3. There are two pairs of shoes here that I adore! Center top and then second row left. These are just my style: a bit British schoolmarm, a bit Cabaret Germanic, a bit nouveau dominatrix (second pair especially). Wonderful! And we do NOT get good sales in the states, I am now completely convinced.

  4. I’ll be getting my fashion craved self to Paris especially for those sales injuries 😉 if you’ve got something in mind from them french stores, you know where to find me and just plain ask 😉

  5. Hi Susie! I lurk around here alot, and I think that your site is just delightful! Just thought that I would mention that I loooooove all of those shoes, but especially the three strap platforms in grey. I’ll just sit here and dream of how fabulous I would look in them…haha!
