Ashley’s Azure Blue

My office isn’t exactly a hotbed of fashionable inspiration as we are all restricted by that dubious dress code of ‘smart casual’ (the most ridiculous of oxymorons if ever there was one….).  However, I find inspiration at the oddest of times and when I strode in yesterday, five minutes late, and plonked my stuff down, the first thing I said in fash-girl mode was ‘Ashley, you are wearing THE blue of the season!’.  Ashley (guy to the left) was taken aback and said with jest ‘Of course, that was my intention all along!’. 

Yes, forget electric blue.  Azure blue is the one to be looking out for.  You heard it from Grazia and the like.  Let’s just forget the ridiculous notion of different blues being rotated season by season because it is RIDICULOUS that electric is hot one minute and not the next.  Let’s just put that aside because in fact, I am preferring Ashley’s azure blue here and have taken to it with great gusto.  I want dresses, skirts and shoes in this exact same shade.  I may even to reference this photo to ensure I get a good match for this blue.  It’s a warmer hue of blue with some green mixed into it and it was also strangely a Walt Disney character.  Please don’t think I’m advocating trading all your shades of blues for azure to be ‘bang on trend’ (groan….) but I’m pledging my allegiance to this blue for the moment…. because it’s nice to be reminded of always-hilarious desk buddy Ashley.

  1. I’ve never gotten this ‘colour of the season’ business either…but that blue is yummy! It looks alarmingly like my ex-boyfriend’s school sweater, though..not a good association for me, but it’s a nice sweater.

  2. pantone has decreed a blue-purple that they call “blue iris” as the color of 2008 so i’m a bit confused. azure is very beautiful though and seems more upbeat and appropriate for spring. anything but aqua for spring is all i ask.

  6. haha I bet he appreciated it! That is a great shade of blue, almost more so on a man’s sweater. So unexpected!

I was about to chip in to say I blogued about Pantone’s blue iris @ da Scaree Fash Post, a few weeks ago… Reminds me of the Devil Wears Prada dialog (or should that be the faux Anna Wintour monolog in DWP…) about why zee newly hired assistant slash future heroine is wearing an apparently ordinary blue sweater, dug up in the sales… According to her supercilious boss, she doesn’t know that the decisions of Fashion Editors (like her) dictated her choice… Why is blue everybody’s favorite color? Because it reminds us of the Big Blue… The sky, the sea etc… & above all because it suits just about anybody! Just seen on the metro in Paris… A girl wearing skinny black jeans & nothing but shades of blue. For instance, azure blue sox contrasted with brand-new Bensimon plimsoles in a too chic for words faded, distressed… shade of (dark) blue… Too chic to be casual therefore X-tremely French, if you get my meaning?? HNY Susie 🙂
