Now you and I both know skater skirts are officially the done-done thing this season and I encouraged some searching around on cheesy skating costume websites a while back. But whilst the skater-chic thing extends to the skirt shape and the boots, does it also extend to sheer embellished bodies, such as this black Veronique Branquinho one I found on eBay? Despite their obvious *ahem* toilet difficulties, I am loving the sleekness that bodies and leotards give and wonder why they had a bit of a popularity downtime period after the early nineties. Everytime I wear a fitted body/leotard, people ponder whether I’ve lost weight or not. It’s like easy body shaping without the scary underwear garments that look hideously difficult to operate. Add a puffball skirt to this body though and you could veer too much towards 80’s prom dress territory (nothing wrong with that… but why feed the obvious, right?). Instead, I’m thinking of a stiff A-line shaped grey organza wrap skirt with the body worn over black opaque tights and chunky ankle boots for an awkward/demure take on sheer √† la Miu Miu this season. The $200 starting price is a bit of an ouch at the moment though. Hmm…back to the cheesy skating costume sites?

I wore a body to go swimming in once in the early 90’s because I hadn’t got a costume handy – needless to say, as soon as I was sliding down the water shoot, the poppers came totally undone half way down, I fought hard to put them back again, but imagine trying to do that whilst going backwards at the same time being sprayed with water at the same time as swishing from side to side in an ungainly manner – this gave the poor swimmers at the other end a terrible shock, and I’ve never been able to go on another water shoot since. Bodies bring back dark memories!!!
Can I just say…Lizzie, your story made me cringe right on the spot… I think I may have to do a post retraction….
…but I do still love the Veronique Branquinho body….
LOL @ Lizzie J! What a story.
Wasn’t this a huge trend 4 seasons ago? Susie, member the wonderful Victor and Rolf dance inspired collections with beautifully crafted ballerina dresses fit for an ice queen lol. So don’t worry, you should fit right in!
Hmm..the dark dangers of poppers. I love bodies though, they solve my low waisted jeans, bare tommy problem, and a skater inspired is even better!
I gotta say, those leotards are cruising for a wardrobe malfunction.
Oh that’s grogeous. As an ice skater myself, I long for that leotard.
I must say, I think leotards have long been awaiting a comeback. But personally I hope they don’t get big because I don’t want to get sick of it, bombarded from every direction. My new obsessions have a nack of coming back in a few months later.
I like their slimline look and how flattering the lowercut back looks. I even bought a pattern secondhand online the other day (cheaper option), so I could make my own one.
Wow i love the design! I bet it’ll look hot in red
Looks a little dated to me but it’s certainly stylish
