Grab and Go Clothes

e-boutiques taking risk on smaller, independent designers is nothing new and with a broad range of labels in an e-boutique’s roster, there is less risk involved applying a ‘something for everyone’ strategy.  However, what of the designer taking the situation into their own hands and offering their garments online?  It does make fiscal sense to do so seeing as they don’t have to offer a cut of their sales to the boutiques.  Hamish Morrow launched his online boutique recently and I was half expecting to see pieces from his autumn winter collection called ‘Juxtapositions in Mono’ – duvet jackets, black lace, leather sheaths all forming cocoons in black.

Instead, there are pieces from the SS07 collection which for me, form a basis of a day-in, day-out kind of wardrobe.  The sort that I wish to breeze in and out of my office in paired with blocks of brighter colours.  ‘Day in, day out’ doesn’t mean perfunctory blandness though.  There’s just enough in the design that makes you go ‘Ah…that’s interesting…’ but the point is not to cram too much into that skirt you’ll grab on at 8 in the morning (I should leave at 7:45 but 8 is when I leave once I’ve finished faffing about), or that wrap cardigan that goes with everything and is draped over your office chair for you to cosy up in whenever.

These dresses have more design ‘pizazz’ about them and are about the most exciting things on offer which isn’t to diminish the other ‘essentials’ in the boutique but anything with deep draped pockets gets my vote…

Perhaps this sudden interest in all things easy-to-grab-and-wear is because it struck me as I was packing for a very short trip to Paris tomorrow that I lack those sort of things in my wardrobe.  Incidentally, just to let you know that I will be in Paris tomorrow and part of Saturday with some hopefully interesting blog posts to come about from it all…I may not be able to post tomorrow though depending on how much Wi-Fi I can scam… more later…

  1. This Hamish Morrow fellow is going to be a problem for me. I’ve racked up ¬£1513 worth of wishlist items:
    Jersey Cotton Vest
    Cowl Neck Top
    Drop Shoulder Jog Top
    Cotton Canvas Pants
    Black Cropped Jacket
Gee whiz. How am I supposed to cull that list down to some sum that is palatable?
