So, it’s not because I’ve been watching ‘Funny Face’ too much that there’s a bit of a pink theme going on this week (you know…that song ‘Think Pink!’….!). But it does seem to be a bit of a coincidence that i-D, the almost anti-thesis of Vogue has also got a pink thing going on with their September "Offspring" issue. It’s also a little uncanny that Gemma Ward is on the cover, usually thought to bear a high resemblance to Sasha P. Perhaps they should have swapped models – at least Sasha P wouldn’t have been wasted on that ‘pretty pretty blah blah’ UK Vogue cover.
Now THIS pink, me likey! The sort of decaying roses, the subtle pink tinge and the draped Lanvin dress is more to my taste. Ruined slightly by the beach-babe hair but I guess for an issue that is about offspring, sleek, picture-perfect hair wouldn’t really work. Isn’t it great we don’t have to end the week on a bad pink note…. because pink isn’t all that bad at all (further affirmation when I tried on the new season Preen hot pink ridged coat in Selfridges….it was painful having to leave it behind…)

preen for winter is so different to what they have done before – the quality of the clothes is absolutely beautiful. the asymmetric shocking pink dress and coat are both beyond stunning.

i love gemma, i personally like her a little more than sasha, sasha has that little coldness to her. i think thats why she looked to awkward on the cover of vogue. i love gemma on here, she looks natural and pretty, and the cover overall looks more relaxed than vogue’s barbie cover.

Gemma’s great, but Sasha has this edge… she would look great on the cover of i-D.
Moni: On almost every issue of i-D, the covergirl/boy either winks or covers one eye with something.
Considering the warmth they are trying to bring to the theme I dont know that this would have worked as well with Sasha.
People dont always think about how much a model’s personality shines through with a good photographer.
Remember Gemma was on i-D a while ago with the floral type headress.. This kind of thing works for her. it could have worked with sasha but the styling would have to be a little different in my opinion. For me Gemma is “lunar goddess” and Sasha is “snow/ice queen” ,.. equally beautiful but different.

i-D does some of the best natural style shots of Sasha though.

and for those that dont know, every i-D cover has an eye closed/ covered/ winking/hidden.. because it echoes the “i” – (look at i-D side on as if it is a smiley… )
