I was completely going to completely blot out the existence of the Lily Allen Loves New Look range, which launched last night and is now sold nationwide. LDN was a cute song. Smile got annoying. She started getting annoyingly mouthy. I lost all interest. Chanel (or rather Karl Lagerfeld) got all excited about her. I was baffled. Then she suddenly got enough fashion credentials that warranted a collaboration with British high street store New Look. The questions marks popped up all over my brain.
So, I had absolutely no intention of seeing it or acknowledging its presence. Unfortunately, when you get free papers like London Lite and The London Paper shoved in your face everyday, you know what’s going to be on the "fashion" (note the inverted commas) pages. Why, I do believe it’s Lily Loves.
Moreover, not only have the images of the collection filtered into my brain. I actually find myself (and I don’t believe I’m blogging this…it’s like the post of shame or something) quite taken with this dress to the left. It’s the signature Lily ‘Pairing prom dresses with trainers’ Allen look. Yes, the ruffles may be a little overkill for some but at least you can’t accuse it of being wishy washy, neither here or there. Exaggerated bust, waist and skirt combined with a olivey yellow that I haven’t seen too much of….. me likey.
Oh dear…did I just say ‘Me likey’???

i saw this online, too. and i’m more excited about it than kate moss’ topshop line. i mean, c’mon. lily allen’s line looks so much more fun!
I liked that dress too, until I tried it on…the colour did not suit me, and, well, I looked like a wild west saloon girl…
I hope you fare better
One of my favorite vintage stores in NYC has to be this store called Eleven on 11 Prince St. (?) It’s really cool – it has a lot of basics, adorable flowy sundresses, the coolest old leather bags, and then a more recent line of jewelry by one of the owners. It has a very bohemian, hippie style to it in my opinion, and although you do seem to like structured pieces too, I think you might just like it. It’s much smaller than Screaming Mimi’s and not AS funky, it’s more rustic – but check it out if you get the chance.
I know it sounds crazy to say this since I’m no athlete, but the Adidas Originals Store in Soho is so much fun, they open this huge garage door and you can sit on beach chairs and just relax while people-watching or eyeing your next purchase and they also throw parties in their store regularly, complete with a cool disco and surprisingly, very stylish people. You could always stop by if you’re in the mood to dance haha. Bye!
I totally agree. When i first heard about this I was like please, no. But i’ve seen a couple pictures of the dresses and they look great. So maybe she just picked a good design team. But at least it’s different then whats out there. As for the New Look quality….well….you’ll have to fill us in on that! Hope all is well with your susie!
hahaha a brilliant move on her part i think, even though her website is disturbingly girly. i just adore those blue and yellow trainers.. but i live in new zealand so no hope 🙁
Yes, I couldn’t believe it when I saw pictures of the collection and I…liked it? That dress is really rather gorgeous and I do believe I am going to have to try it on! The colour is really really lovely too!
Why, I think that dress is wonderful! Would leave the trainers at home myself though.
That is the only good piece of the collection and it reminds me of Christopher Kane
I quite like the whole collection, the dresses are really fun. Does anybody know if it’s available in antwerp?
Jeez, what’s with the New Look hate? They’ve always had nice stuff if you ignored the dreck. There’s not a single high street store that doesn’t have its share of crap. Of course this collection is lovely, why is that a surprise?
I know Lily is a mouthy swine, who often bigs up the comments just for the sake of controvesy, but still,I prefer that attitude over the other vapid and plastic picture perfect female pop stars of today. She doesn’t give a shit, makes mistakes and hasn’t yet gone on a diet.
The clothes are cheap and cheery, true to Lily’s image and are sure to be a commercial hit. I can’t help but like her even if her music is a little cheesy and overplayed!
Her clothes have more personality, are better quality, and worth the price in comparison to Moss’s line.
I was far more impressed with lilys collection than Kate Moss… Giles Deacon for New Look wasnt bad either but did not seem to sell too well as whilst I was in New look look at lilys stuff I saw rows upon rows of Giles!
Penelope cruz and her sister for MANGO is the colaberation I am looking forward to next!
The colour is really weird. Old-fashioned, in a way.
@ Annie
Good one!
I much prefer Lily Allen’s line to Kate Moss’s generic ripped-off crap.
The jewellery is faaabulously chav-tastic!
Another vote for preferring this to Kate Moss. I don’t think she got nearly as overexposed here in the U.S.–but I don’t watch music channels so what do I know. I saw her included on lots of year-end best-of lists but didn’t really hear one of her songs until recently. I do like her look and attitude–plus, she made a very funny appearance on the Daily Show so gotta love her for that.
