Gareth Pugh for You

Whoever says that high fashion doesn’t reach the streets is severely mistaken.  Sure, we aren’t all going to be able to afford the stuff on the catwalks but we can sure as hell aspire to recreate a little of the look.

This guy was wearing a "UHU Gareth Pugh" shirt with a white plastic chain and a chequered scarf that of course is a reference to Pugh’s spring summer 2007 collection.  I’ve been seeing people do the same with various collections – adding those little touches that will remind those in the know of certain designers.  Neon lace around the waist – Christopher Kane.  Navy satin shorts – Miu Miu.  Cream ruffles around the neck – Louis Vuitton.  For the people who think outside the box, those collections we flick through dreamily on style.com are not entirely unreachable.  I hopefully aspire to do the same…

  1. I’m actually really glad you posted this because a little while ago I used to believe these things were really unrealistic. So instead I bought very cheap, tacky clothes all the time because I believed the things I saw in style.com were totally unreachable. Until one day I recieved a Karen Walker voucher..and I’ve never looked back!
    xbisous

  2. Forget Gareth Pugh, I was wondering just how people were going to interpret the new Prada S/S line, and then along came the twisty headscarves…surprising how adaptable to our lives these bits of so-called ‘unreachable’ high fashion can be.

  3. This question may make me sound stupid but I don’t get the “UHU” bit of the UHU Gareth Pugh shirt, what does it mean?

  4. i do something similar to this, i get the piece from the designer that i can afford and dress in the aesthetic.
and the UHU is like YOU WHOOO, it’s like a way of getting someone’s attention, esp. if they’re at a distance… isn’t really a real word

  5. I think this is what visionary stylists do – they facilitate something unattainable into a completely versatile and appealing DIY aesthetic that we can all rock – runway to streetwear.
    Great post Ms.Bubble!
