Once again, the fashion trend wheel has fallen upon what was once de rigeur which then fell out of grace but is now making a comeback – leopard print. Actually, in all truthfulness, I never found leopard print that repulsive. The one memory I have of leopard print is actually a good one of Sophie Ellis Bextor wearing a leopard print trenchcoat over a green dress. However, I did think the print needed to be a very specific item, in a certain fabric and worn in a special way. Such strategic thinking was all too much for me so I pretty much gave up on the cause. Now that there’s a slew of leopard print being shoved into the stores, it gets a bit more tempting.
When in doubt though, I turn to vintage and eBay has some pretty nice things. When searching, I was careful not to go down the "Sexy, hot, tight" road. Keeping the print looser, more girly than vampy and a little more cute than *wolf whistle* tones it down a fair bit so that it feels like you’re wearing just another print rather than an animal if you know what I mean.
I’m personally not a fan of the luridly coloured leopard prints but again, I’ve seen hot pinks and turquoises worn amazingly well. For me though, I’d stick to the good old natural brown leopard print but instead of wearing with black and more black, it’s sludgy colours like greys, teals, olives and taupes that again calms down the print.
Oooh….get me being all sensible and timid about a trend!

ya, i’m not too much a fan, but i did find a great leopard coat at H&M recently that is cut more like a trench with a bit of flaring in the back-half 1950’s half 1960’s. it’s pretty cute. but when i wear it, it will not be paired with gold jewelry or red….way too eighties tack for me. i like 50’/60’s leopard print….
Btw Susie, I know this is off topic, did you know there’s a Chanel outlet boutique down at the Woodbury commons mall in NY?
oooooooo i do love the 1st one!!!! in fact, it’s so perfect i think you should get it. sooo cute!
generally though, i’m not a fan of leopard print. and while i never say never, i dont think im going to start wearing it any time soon!
i love leopard pattern, it;s great.
few days ago i bought leopard leggings:)
wow, susie that 1st dress is a dress i sold to the women who is now selling it. and it appears she is using my photos including my logo to resell it. that is not very cool.
^Swan…. that’s terrible! I think I’m going to go and rescue the dress and take it out of the crazy eBay selling cycle and ACTUALLY wear it like it’s supposed to be worn!
Though I wish I bought it off you in the first place!
hehe! too funny 🙂
