Let me just state right from the word go, I’m… not… a….denim….expert. Far from it, ashamedly.
True Religion, Tsubi, Rock Republic and the like, all kind of blur into one for me because I rarely wear jeans and when I do, they’re not ‘hot’ denim brands. So it must take something to grab my attention. Actually, I’m more fascinated and curious than anything else. The Dutch brand Blue Blood have gone to what I would call extreme lengths to "wear" out a pair of jeans for the comfort of the consumer who likes to greet their jeans as they would a dear old friend. So they have come up with what they term the ‘Human Experiment’ range – Italian cotton farmers and the workers who produce Blue Blood jeans were asked to put on a brand new pair of jeans in June 2005 and then six months later, they were given a new pair to wear. The worn in jeans were then dry-cleaned and repaired for us folks, ready to sell all packaged up in cute potato sacks. The concept intrigues me as it’s basically a differeng way of speeding up the vintage process but not in the way that other brands would to it with heavy heavy washes and fake rips and fading.
It gets even more fascinating. With these football goalie-type handgloves that have sandpaper mitts, you can control the amount of wearing and fading on your jeans so that you don’t go overboard like *ahem* some brands. Nifty. Blue Blood also has another product to solve the age old problem of washing denim which is notioriously bad for your jeans. So the key is to keep wearing them over and over again but spray them with Dry Care Easy Clean jean care spray that will remove bacteria and keep jeans smelling ok. Its TLC for your jeans.
It’s got me interested enough to go and try on these lived in jeans and even procure a pair of handmitts that I’d probably use to rough up things other than denim knowing me.

wow, that is so awsome. I wish I could buy a pair.
cool piece of info..thanks!
However..i am feelingm dark stiff denim recently… the worn in look is slightly overdone, no?

Cool, thanks for that susie. Where is the stuff sold at?
Urban Outfitters, Harrods, Selfridges and Liberty apparently – I think some stores stock just the jeans and others stock the denim gadgets.
Thanks. How did they feel on?
I have been told umpteen times not to wash denim but I have a problem with this – I HATE my jeans to go baggy at the knees, infact the longer I don’t wash my jeans the bigger they get! I wash them out of necessity – if I don’t they end up falling off me!!

That is so bizarre! Okay, so my question is, how do they get all the right sizes? I mean, do they have field workers of all shapes and sizes? At any rate, it’s all very intriguing.
Aww that sounds so weird yet so cool. I love distressed jeans and its such a quirky idea!
PURE GENIUS.
I have an unhealthy obsession with jeans, and this is such an interesting concept!
absolutely brills!
Now I need a pair…
ehhh…. why wouldnt you just wear them in yourself? unless the person who wore your jeans is built exactly like you it wont be any better than any other jeans that have pre distressing
oh… one more thing… the people who make and sell fake levis in thailand have been doing this exact thing for a while now, only with a batter quality product at a much lower price point.
^Well CMF…I DID say I knew nowt about denim! Thanks for letting me know about Levis.
Personally, I find the fit of Levis really odd – everytime I go into a Levis store, I literally try on every godforsaken size, fit etc and something is always off……. waist too big and then legs too short or legs too long or bum too tight….really really odd….
yeah… new levis arent the best. the fakes im talking about are actually fake vintage, with a vintage 501 cut, selvage denim, etc…
levis has never made good womens cuts.
i distressed my own jeans from a raw state to a 7 month faded look but they still didnt have enuff chARACTER SO I BURIED THEM to let the elements add a tint and in july 2007 i plan to dig them up. Crazy? sure but definitely experimental.
