It’s no secret that upscale boutiques and designer stores will hire people as sales assistants based on their looks. I know for a fact that Selfridges ask for photos with people’s CV’s (resumes) and judge applicants by those photos alone, regardless of how much experience a person has! Pineal Eye, the cutting edge boutique in Soho, London takes it a step further by operating as an informal modelling agency as well as a store. Everyone there is imposingly beautiful and as they are frequently scouted, so they have become part-time models as well as being shop girls/boys. The level of cool at Pineal Eye, the shop with it’s exciting designers and mirrored basement is scary enough as it is but the majorly hot assistants just pushes this store into a whole new dimension of almost off-putting cool.

urgh! I hate modelish shop people. then you have to be rude and/or reserved so as not to fuel their ego, or induce their distaste.
As for the selfridges thing….I was never asked for a photo with my CV and I was going for a personal shopper position. I got an interview as well but couldn’t make it. But this would explain why the majority of asst.’s in highend shops are absolutely crap at what they do.
