Fashion early birds

The thing is about high street stores is that along with everyone else in the world, they can take those catwalk trends and transfer them to the high street in a short amount of time.  I dare not go to Topshop’s shoe department at the moment because it’s a bit scary seeing the staff practically break down in tears from all the shoe boxes they have to carry but something always catches my eye there.

As it is shoe design in stores like Topshop has a FAST turnover – you may have seen one style of shoe in one week but the next minute, arrives a newer style.  Faddy shoes they maybe but the quality for Topshop, Kurt Geiger and Office is actually pretty decent.  I have many a high street pairs of shoes that have lasted for a decent amount of time (which is more than I can say for my Marni sandals…..).

Since we are entering a period of sobriety, I like how the colours of taupe, black and  dark blues reflect this.  Sure I could hang around, waiting for the real Marc Jacobs patent boots to land on these shores, but in the meantime, these high street retailers have already got there first.

  1. I have heaps of shoes from Topshop, some of which have lasted me for many, many years, where the designer counterparts have only lasted a few months. At the end of the day, unless you’re the sort that only wears expensive shoes to functions or takes a cab everywhere, designer shoes wear out just as quickly as high street shoes especially when, like me, you pretty much walk everywhere or travel on buses/tubes. So I reckon high street shoes are the best way to get a version of the latest trend without the heartache of seeing a £300 pair of shoes fall apart. I have heard many a story of people having to get their Christian Louboutins resoled only to discover the cobbler replaced the signature red soles with plain old tan!

  2. Unfortunately, we don’t have TopShop here in Philadelphia, but my secret is a bevy of “ghetto” stores that sell booty shorts, tacky diamond belt buckles and knock off shoes. I do wish to endulge in expensive shoes from time to time, but you’re totally right. These shoes are trendy, and I’ll probably hate them before they wear out anyway. And I won’t have to feel so bad, only paying $20!
