Lily Allen knows how to sing about LDN

My song of the moment is ‘LDN’ by 20 yr old Londoner, Lily Allen who is about to explode on the British music scene thanks to her phenomenal My Space following.  Her music is a mixture of hip hop, ska, and pop – a female counterpart to Mike Skinner from The Streets if you will.  Click on my Bubble Tunes link to check out this infectious tune of her’s.  Her My Space also has the video accompanying the song which just about sums up why I love London so much.

More related to fashion, I’ve noticed on more than one occasion that she likes to mix vintage dresses with some hip-hop bling bling (some might even call it vintage-chav-chic…..).  I think it really suits her.  It’s eclectic just like her music.

  1. this is crazy, we’re going to do a piece on the lily allen who plays bass in a band called psychic ills out of brooklyn – who makes music nothing like this lily allen and dresses nothing like her either (but is still super-fashionable!) how strange is that?

  2. at the fabric store today, i saw fabric pretty similar to that and this post made me realize its cuteness, but right now i must take on one project at a time… 🙁

  3. Love this- thanks Susie!
I am from New Orleans and she samples the classic Mardi Gras song “2nd Line” in her tune “Knock Em Out”…like her voice and the ska is always a good thing.

  4. My pleasure!
Kat: I think every town needs a Lily Allen…. that is so spooky though…
Christina: I must try and find a vintage dress like that! *rushes off to type rainbow in eBAY*
Style Cynics: Haha…I think it’s the pose because from the front she really looks nothing like LiLo.
Orchide: I didn’t know about the sample – thanks for the heads up!

  5. Thanks for introducing me to Lily Allen!
I remember her dad and the Vindaloo England football song! Wonder if he puts another out again for the world cup!
Lily’s a solid middle class lass so the bling thing is a tad ironic, I suppose she can pull it off without looking ‘chavvy’. The vintage gear juxtaposes the soveriegn rings and heavy earings, interesting style mix! You’d have to be Lily to pull this look off! CUTE THOUGH !
My six year old has watched the vid about twenty million times as she’s excited to be coming back to London with me at christmas for a visit. She likes Lily on her chopper riding past the Palace. She now has Lily on her Mp3!

  6. I love her music. Its her voice i think, its like she’s talking but then at teh same time she IS kind of singing her dress sense is sooo cool. She’s made me wnat to dig out all my gold jewellery again!!!
