Edie and Andy at the age of 5

I know I keep harping on about kids in editorials but I really do find the idea ludicrous, weirdly cute and very odd to look at.  It’s slightly disconcerting how highly styled these kids are in this Citizen K shoot entitled ‘Vernis-Sages’ (shot by Louis Decamps).  This Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgewick styling is so bizarre to look at.  It’s not just cute floral dresses and denim overalls for the young ones anymore – designer junior ranges are now big business as more and more yummy mummies wish to treat their kids as catwalk dress-up dolls.  Personally, I’d be happy with Gap and Mothercare – why bother dressing them up only to find they’ve outgrown the £130 Ralph Lauren jeans that you just bought them last month?  Oh, the world we live in…..

  1. That is so strange…especially when you consider Warhol’s x-rated films. Really, WHAT was the ditor thinking?

  2. I have a daughter (she’s 2 now) that dresses in beautiful belgium designs. It’s def. on the expensive side and she is worth every moment. Children grow up so fast and my daughter is too…why would I want her precious moments to be dressed too simply or without much thought. Not that you can’t dressed a child with inexpensive clothing. But it’s so much fun when the designs are wonderfully catered for tots.

  3. I see your point so far as wanting to give your daughter some wonderful childhood dress up moments. It’s wonderful that you can provide her with beautiful clothes. There is nothing wrong if you can afford that luxury.
It’s just a personal preference in that I’d probably be very pragmatic and practical with my kids (not that I see myself having any!).

  4. We actually “afford” by sacraficing a few of our fav. designer pieces each season. Plus we go by quality moreso than quantity even for her. I really do understand about being practical too. I have a child afterall. : )
BTW I really enjoy reading your blog.

  5. I have to say the resemblance to Edie is uncanny! fashion forward &
A bit disturbing to already want your kids to have the valium chic look. I guess everyone has the factory fever?

  6. My 16 month old is exclusively dressed by eBay.
The place is heaving with gorgeous CHEAP designer clothes for kids, and because they’re kids clothes most of them are hardly worn. Tremendous bargains to be had.
Loving the Edie look – anything for little girls which isn’t all fuchsia and bunnies is fine by me.
PS. I never thought I’d have kids either.
