London Fashion Week A/W07-8 Day 3

I’m still plodding on at day 3.  Today was especially hard as the cold has manifested itself into random bouts of phlegm-ridden coughing.  Not good on a day where I was supposed to be at an IQONS press conference.  Yes, IQONS has been soft-launching for the past few months and you probably have heard me blah on about it before but it has now OFFICIALLY launched and projects were revealed at the press conference that were unknown to me!  Future featured IQONS include…… *drumroll* Maria Luisa (of THE influential boutique in Paris), Alber Elbaz, John Galliano and Vivienne Westwood.  People, those fashion barriers are breaking down.  I’m thinking I might have to do a fangirl *woohoo* if any of them deigned to accept me as their "entourage" (IQONS speak for friends).

Anyway, back to press conference where in the company of IQONOGRAPHER Colin McDowell, I was sort of rendered mute/with a speech impediment and complete brain freeze.  Nice one..  But the wall at the press conference venue, The Hospital did provide a lovely non-plegm related distraction.  Decoupage, paisley and lots of Julie Verhoeven illustrations……

The rest of the day didn’t fare much better cock-up wise.  Rain coupled with impractical shoes resulted in fashion roadkill.  Whilst rushing to get to the Daydream Nation show (fellow HK designers who showed OFF schedule this season – more about that later!), I fell quite spectacularly down some stairs approaching the show.  I can’t quite pick out A/W07-8 trends yet but theme of this week is the ground wanting to swallow me up.  The tush is very sore….very sore indeed…

Shows watched: PPQ (see pics below for their fabric of choice…), Berube (a mix of camping hats and silver sequins), Ann Sofie Back (seat belts knotted around the bum…. and lots of bandage dresses), a bit of Osman Yousefzada (rushed in just as Lily Cole appeared in a golden halo for the finale…such a shame I missed the beginning…) RAdAR h (a menswear designer that I thought was awesome…more about that later…. the 5% of readers who are male might appreciate it) and of course Daydream Nation (catchphrase of the post… "more about that later")

Wearing: My very loosely Kane-inspired outfit…. I was thinking people would be rocking up in the Topshop Christopher Kane stuff but I think everyone sussed it would be TOO much of an act of adoration on the day of Kane’s show.  Vaudevill & Burlesque dusky pink lace shirt w/ pom pom trim, Moschino Cheap & Chic grey jersey ruffled corset, vintage 80’s lycra dress, Mango teal puffball skirt, white ballet tights, vintage white patent multi-strap shoes

Remember those mushroom hats at Marc Jacobs A/W06 that made me chuckle but secretly yearn for them?  Well you can’t see too clearly but this 40 something woman is the first person I’ve seen wearing the real MJ version…. and at Peter Jensen y/day, the mushroom appeared again – abeit smaller and with some practical ear flaps.

Standing in a queue to get into a show can often remind you of things.  I need a grey leather jacket…. a preferably light one with beautiful cutting at the back like this hat-donning friend (by the by, nobody is fearing the hat at LFW….. it is hats galore!) // I sort of took this picture thinking ‘Ooh-Er – thats a low low back….. ‘ and then she turned around and it was Pixie Geldof with sis Peaches next to her… ran-dom.  Pixie is actually quite pretty in person… like an English version of Nora Zehetner.

I was informed by Nicole of Brittique yesterday that this shiny black stuff that I made a DIY dress out of once and is appearing all over this season is called PE (lets just call it poly-easy-shine – I haven’t a clue what it actually stands for).  PPQ used it a LOT for their collection.

And the last bit of random-snaps – vintage gold brocade looks a lot better than the new stuff….. I think this was a vintage Chinese-style jacket // I need to knit myself a chunky bag…. or buy one…. ok, I’ll buy one // Perhaps carrying around a teddy bear is like the new mini-pooch.  She was holding it like a handbag perhaps it was a bear-bag…..

  1. I’ve seen Peaches in Selfridges once and found her to be quite tall! Was expecting her to be short for some reason.
I absolutely love those shoes you are wearing – what an amazing find!!!

  2. Go Susie! Though maybe on some shoes with a better grip on the sole 🙂
I got a look at the Christopher Kane photographs on Style.com…interesting stuff, especially with those ammo-looking studs. Nice to see he kept the shapes, short, but I loved the belts.

  3. oh my dear, having a cold you should pack yourself in more layers and >>longer<< layers!! I do usually dress too cold for any kind of weather anyways and I know the feeling of open shoes in rain so I imagine it quite unconfortable when ill! uhm.. do I sound like a mother??

  4. Those shoes are stunning Susie! So since you are the fashion queen, can you tell me where to find similar? There must be some really expensive look alikes out there, right?

  5. Haha..no the tongue is not sticking out….. my face is just naturally messed up :p
The outfit got protected by the trench…… thank god!
The shoes were an eBay find fo about £20 – I’m not sure how I stumbled onto them though….they were made in the 60’s so perhaps search for shoes in the 60’s section of eBay?? They’re not a rarity I don’t think…

  6. Hello Susie,
so did you spot Carine Roitfeld?! or was it just sthg she said like that in the air…?!
anyway, very good FashionWeak have great time… and good point for being on 2nd row (in the middle)!! this is good!

  7. pixies’ back is nice and toned
i’ve been loving your fashion week coverage, so thank you 😀

  8. When I saw that IQONS newsletter I was so excited that I just *might* have a chance at being part of Elbaz or Westwood or Galliano’s entourage…ooh lala!
And ps those shoes are just dripping with fabulosity.

  9. i totally <3 your outfit! (as usual :P). you must have been cold tho! (even with a trench!)

  10. Hi Susie,
I am so upset I missed the shows today – I had ticketsfor fewbut had a reportto finish at work…how fun!
I love the chunky knit bag, and the very low back dress, talk about being sexy 😉

  11. the shoes are to die for…and I didn’t really intend that comment in the context that the shoes could probably kill you if you tripped down the stairs, but I admit that I would wear equally impractical shoes if they looked as good as those.
can you knit, Susie? (I just ask because of the knit bag comment) If not, it’s really quite easy, but a bit time-consuming

  12. Oucccch.
The whole falling down the stairs thing. At least you’ve laughed it off!
I love the oufit too. I like the fact that C Kane inspiration is evident, but individual and not just jumping on the topshop bandwagon.
Though, I can assure you that If they sold it at Bristol’s Topshop, I’d be jumping on the bandwagon too!
    S xx

  13. i work at a company that subscribes to WGSN & they had an article covering leg/footwear @ London Fashion Week & there was a picture of your feet! just thought it was exciting that WGSN has documented you for blazing a trail in fashion 🙂
