>> I treat all readers as if they are friends – sort of. Perhaps that is a mistake and perhaps I should distance myself but if a friend had a problem with me, I’d like them to come clean about it and allow me to explain/apologise so its the same when a reader does. I have been accused of doing a ‘Banksy’ – being a numbnut, I did have to Google that to get the full meaning of that phrase but having found out what it means, I will explain the Pourquoi behind my insignificant presence at LFW. I’m not at London Fashion Week because of my blog – the blog is in no way a platform of getting me to LFW – I hardly think industry insiders are going to acknowledge the blog and that was never my intention with the blog. I am at LFW on behalf of Fashion156 which I write for in my spare time. I am writing show reports the first of which is up now:
Day 1 LFW Round Up at Fashion156
To be honest, if I wanted to go into fashion journalism full-time, I would have done it half a year ago and I will say it again and without trying to sound trite – I am happy in my job! They have been very flexible with me and I am taking selective holidays off this week for LFW but also because I’m working from my phone/laptop and dropping into the office every now and again, I am keeping up to date with my day job. They are fully supportive and yes, perhaps it is a little greedy to want the cake and eat it but I believe my hobby as a blogger, my role as contributor at Fashion156 and my job can all co-exist in a happy happy place.
I wouldn’t be defending myself if the blog was some sort of LFW ticket in! It is extremely hard to articulate the side of my life (i.e. my day job and other stuff) that you know nothing about and as this is not a journal, why should I go into it? The downside of course is you only see one side of it all…. the fun stuff, the fashion stuff, the stuff the blog was made for. I’m so sorry if people have mis-interpreted my intentions but I will hold my head high and say I’m NOT doing a Banksy (hope that statement makes more sense to you than it did to me when I first heard it!).
Don’t let the silly opinion of one jealous person ruin the fun for you. Keep doing what you doing π
What the hell is a Banksy? I thought that was a graffiti artist?
Well whatever your intentions are doing this blog. I ENJOY every bit of it. Besides. Anyone in thier right minds knows when you write for this blog, you throw your heart into it. That is what matters!
Whoever is raining on your parade needs to get over it!
It’s no-ones’ business why you are going to fashion week, and as for “doing a Banksy”? WTF does that mean? Banksy is a talented artist who’s managed to turn something negative (graffiti is associated with mindless vandalism) into a positive (using the medium to make powerful social statements), so perhaps “doing a Banksy” is actually a compliment, but the moron who said it in the first place clearly has no idea what they are talking about.
People like that have no lives.
Banksy is amazing, take it as a compliment! You are amazing, m’dear!
Hi Guy here the editor of fashion156.com . I asked Susie to go to the shows as part of the 156 team. She is one of my most respected writers and lots of people in fashion are taking her very seriously. The owner of one of the biggest and influential PR’s in London emailed telling me she loves what Susie writes for 156 and her page is extremely popular week after week with my readers.
To get into the shows the designers (or their PRβΓΓΉs) have to invite you and fashion156 has been invited. They are MORE than happy that Susie is representing 156, so as long as they are cool with it, that is all that matters.
Susie is very modest and one of the most lovely people you could wish to meet. What she is doing on this blog is absolutory amazing and she should be extremely proud of herself. She has also helped me out so many times since i launched 156 and i adore her. So any nasty people out – back off!!!! Susie is @ LFW because she has as much right as anyone to be there, and because she has been invited!!!
As long as Susie has time to write for 156 i will gladly publish her work because i love her personal sense of style and how she is so open to everyone on her blog that she displays her closet to the world and lets you see her style of dress every day, and then sits back and accepts criticism and praise with an open heart!
So hands of Susie bubble………..she totally ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!! And next season she will be at the Paris shows too if I can arrange it , and I will do everything in my power to support her . If Susie wanted to work in fashion βΓΓ¬ at this time she has no desire to βΓΓ¬ she could walk into a job tomorrow .
I’m pretty new to all this blog-reading and usually I only brows for pics (which btw you do brilliantly!!!), but is there one thing I know there should be more bloggers out there treating their readers as friends (pretty much the only thing I read in this post..)! cause wtf should we keep on coming back if treated like shit for any request or question.. but when it comes to other way around: IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH A BLOGGERS REGULAR POSTS..GET THE F*** OUT OF THERE & GET A LIFE..
Love the bubble!
I second all of the above. As Guy says Susie is one of the nicest people I have ever met in fashion not to mention a highly talented writer and ALREADY influential. There are many young fashion brands such as Berube and Camilla Staerk who understand the contribution that she makes to boosting their brand awareness via her always informational and entertaining blog. Why bemoan a writer for attending when there are 100s of worthless so called celebs attending shows contributing zilch.
Great reply, I’ve always loved your honesty.
But (when you get time) could you please answer my question about how you juggle your day job with attending shows on behalf of fashion156? I ask because I am so impressed with how you manage to do it all! (And still look great while doing so π
As a side note, what’s funny is that I posted my question a few messages prior to the person who dissed you. And in my message, I clearly noted that you were attending the shows for fashion156. Obviously, that person didn’t read my message before posting. More importantly, that person obviously doesn’t pay close attention to your blog because you have, in the past, clearly stated that you attend shows as a part of the press–the press being the lovely fashion156.com!
Oops. Disregard my question! I kinda spaced out and accidentally missed the second half of your blog post where you explained how you manage to juggle work and attending shows. Keep up the good work, Susie!
why doesn’t anyone care how or why you’re at LFW? I think your blog is fantastic, and if you happen to be able to tell us your musing there, I’m appreciative. I think it’s great you can go to fashion week, whether it’s blog related or not. Dont’ be affected by them dear, and keep just being you.
i hope you do get to to paris…
“IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH A BLOGGERS REGULAR POSTS..GET THE F*** OUT OF THERE & GET A LIFE..
Love the bubble!”
True dat!
I prefer fashion blogging to fashion journalism sometimes , the passion seeems to come across more. x
whatever other said, just be yourself! People who verbally attack other are simply out of jealousy and lacking of power.
We all love your blog no matter if you are insider or not.
XXX
Some people just don’t understand that one can have such a great passion for something…in particular, fashion, …that they make room in their everyday life for it every chance they get…and that’s exactly what you do! Your blog is a testament to your love of style and your knowledge of fashion as an art form. People are always eager to point out a sell-out, but you for sure are not a sell-out! All that sort of accusation means is that you are making your mark on the blogosphere–you’re fabulous enough to be gossiped about and criticized. Too bad everyone can’t just be happy for you! I know I am…not to mention it means we get great coverage of London Fashion week from the perspective of a smart, un-jaded fashionista liek yourself.
you shouldnt have even bothered with a reply! your great at what you do! you add a little something extra in your blog that I haven’t read anywhere! i look forward to your blogs as soon as I can switch on my laptop. keep going susiee! and dont let anyone put you downnn!
I don’t think Banksy is a sellout, and neither are you, no more than The Sartorialist is a sellout for taking pictures at Fashion Week.
I honestly think we’re lucky that you choose to share your experiences of the fashion side of things in your life via the blog, and please do keep on, fashion insider, ousider, whatever you are, this is a great corner of the interpipe all thanks to you.
Go honey and do your life. Don’t let jelous people to ruin your moment.
Besides that, you do with your blog what you please, that’s no one else’s bussines.
Oh my…. so many replies (ack… must stop doing HoH rhyming!). Thank you x 1000. Guy, Nicole, BFH, Bobble-Bee, wafa, StColaPop, everyone really… it put me out of sorts yesterday because what Dezmond said couldn’t be further from the truth. I do feel like a complete outsider at LFW because I don’t know x,y,z person and for someone to think I’m using the blog as some kind of get-in-card – well…. its just laughable…
I guess me posting a whole bunch of random stuff from LFW is a bit out of the blue and I suppose I should have explained myself better. I’m defensive precisely because there’s nothing I hate more than being completely mis-understood…..
You’re brilliant, Susie! More power to you, m’dear.
LOL, touched a raw nerve. Anyway, hope to see you writing for Vogue soon!…Fashionista bloggers unite!
Cool Blog, I really like it. I can totally understand you. I like to make clothes and I once thought about going into fashion, get a degree and work as one of the many hands behind the clothes. But I decided against it. I like fashion, I like clothes, but I want it to be fun only. I like to do my own quirky stuff, without having to think if it keeps me in job or not. Have fun at fashion week, keep us all informed and thank you for sharing.
I just really respect the idea that Susie can have a job and hobbies, keep them separate, and enjoy them both.
Good Grief, Whoever said that is a dolt!
Keep up your good work, no matter what
anyone says, LOVE your Blog!
Susie! Your blog is truly amazing and inspirational!
I wish I could be as daring as you with your style. It’s great! As soon as I get a wage, I shall be hitting those shops every weekend!
Goshhh Susie! And whatever this Banksy business is, forget it.
Banksy is extremely talented, so to be compared to him is a huge compliment.
Well done for getting yourself at LFW :]
susie, reading your blog is always brightening my day – i’m just happy it exists. love your LFW reports and everything you’re writing here π
out of curiosity what is your day job? π ! I always just assumed you did something fashiony!!
