Hip hip Hooray for Eley!

My word for things that I’m super excited about is ‘EGG-CITING’ especially when said whilst clapping my hands and smiling a cheesy grin. Well, suffice to say, I was EGG-CITED about seeing the Eley Kishimoto show last week.  They made a much welcome return to the LFW schedule and as the HoH-style title of this post says, I really do mean it when I say ‘Hip hip hooray for Eley!’  The collection is called ‘Another Place’, inspired by a mix of traditional Kyoto and Princess Leia in Star Wars.  A few might baulk at that combination but fear not, as Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto have gone for the undeniably covetable and uncomplicated in their execution.  The shapes don’t subscribe to any particular trend (tight? loose? who cares as long as it looks good…) but instead, Eley Kishimoto has gone for universally flattering pieces.  It’s also interesting how this collection is a touch more sophisticated and has coincidentally has grown up along with myself.  The Eley Kishimoto clothes of a few years ago were just right for my teenage cutesy phase but this collection has strangely picked up on the grown up Eley Kishimoto girl…. i.e. me!  I also love how the prints are sprinkled sparingly and how the plainer pieces work equally as well as the printed ones.  The Princess Leia meets Kyoto may throw you a bit, but looking at the prints, you can see how subtle the input of these influences are and probably why for me, they work so well.  So, what can I say, except a big ‘Yay Yay, for Eley!’  Ok, really must stop doing HoH rhymes…..

  1. Ooh. Was excited to see the pics, am even more excited to see that Creatures of Comfort sells the line stateside.

  2. I’ve never heard of Eley before, but once again – thanks for opening my eyes to another credible designer. I love those socks with the detail on the back and all of the prints are really quite, really unique compared to what I’ve been seeing lately.

  3. While I was quite excited to be informed of a designer that makes me jump for joy, I am equally saddened by my inability to access their wares. Just out of curiosty, do you know how the sizes and price points run for the clothes – in case I were to be a crazy Philadelphian and telephone LA or London stockists to send me things? (Sadly, nothing I have not done before – for either location. Sigh. The things one does for beautiful clothing.)

  4. Laura, Eley Kishimoto runs to UK sizes so if you’re a US4, you would be a UK8 and so forth. But I find Eley Kishimoto can be quite generous in its sizing so you might have to go a size down so that it fits. Price wise, most of the stuff is on par with Marc by Marc Jacobs except it might be more pricy in the States obviously because UK prices don’t convert well back to USD…..

  5. oh how i love those socks and the skirt (?) in the top left hand corner… hmmmmmm – i think my wallet might stretch to the former come winter!
