Legs and Arms at Prada

I’m not a deferential person.  There is not ONE single designer in the world which I don’t judge without bias.  Even the masters get it wrong sometimes and we can all agree that Miuccia Prada’s influence and direction in fashion is second to none.  But a collection like the one seen yesterday at Milan for autumn witner 2007-8 can REALLY divide opinion.  I really am not deferring and buckling under the peer pressure group of ‘We love Prada’ but…. I am rather loving the collection.  As Miss Miuccia has said, it’s ‘something simple but strange’ and she has got it in one.  It has all the quirks that aren’t too quirky combined with all the luxury that isn’t too luxurious.  Some of you will call it ugly, but I’m not keen on people throwing the u-word about, as I have a very tolerant definition of the word.  Just look at the quirks that work (well for me at least!), two toned footless socks and the hand-held grab bags (quite literally HAND-bags).  Well you know me and Prada hoisery – I’m already there for the socks and it is strange that the first Prada bag I intend to buy is not the usual utilitarian minimalist range but this strange ‘scratch the head’ object.  Perhaps Miuccia has personified in a collection what my style is all about – she may never know it, but her collection has made a personal call out to me.

  1. I love the socks, but the furry stuff was horrendous. It made the models look like muppets.

  2. Those socks are amazing – your site has really turned me on to the Prada style socks. I love the bags as well.

  3. I love those handbags and I think your blog is great. I check it everyday and it has made me try more things in my own style. Keep up the good work. Thanks!

  4. Personally, i can’t conceive footless hosiery…foot are a esential part of socks, pantyhose and tights..anyway, those socks could be worn with pantyhose or tights underneath…

  5. i liked this collection. maybe i’ve been brainwashed like the rest of ‘them’, but i actually love the idea of ultra-fake fur, the strangeness and the beauty of the colors. the faster designers can make fake fur truly covetable, the better in my book. not saying she will have won over the world with this collection, but it is sure to set off a wave of similar efforts.

  6. I rather love the handbags. They remind me of the original design that probably inspired them, from the late 50s early sixties. Clutches with flat wrist straps to keep your clutch secure. Not like a wristlet, but along the whole length of the bag.

  7. Oh, I love that bag with the big orange bow! A bit silly, a bit sweet, and orange!

  8. Where did you find the Prada socks? I have not been able to locate them anywhere in the states.

  9. I don’t even know how I ended up here, but I thought this post was great.
I do not know who you are but definitely you are going to a famous blogger if
you are not already 😉 Cheers!
