Why I keep going on about the goddamn deets (read my pseudo-street way of saying ‚Äòdetails‚Äô….) I don‚Äôt know but these days, when I‚Äôve got things on my mind like ‚Äòflat deposit‚Äô and ‚Äòbills‚Äô (let‚Äôs hope I can banish these ugly words from Style Bubble…)when buying new things, I really need to look at the ‚Äòdeets‚Äô to ensure that I don‚Äôt double up on myself and buy something I already have and also to make my money stretch to the maximum and buy something that is sure to be a little bit special.
Season after season,(despite some of your well-reasoned protests… yes, I‚Äôm talking about you Meg….) I‚Äôve always found something to love about Gareth Pugh‚Äôs collections and seeing it all in person affirms the love as I feel his collections are going from strength to strength and that the hype machine has finally calmed down and the graft he‚Äôs put in is evident. For AW08-9, the deets I‚Äôve homed in on are…
….the grey mass of zip to zip to zip to zip to zip on this heaving flared out coat…
….the rows and rows of safety pins, again structured on a coat jumper dress, as pointed out by a reader…
….that familiar triangular leather pattern, except this time in gunmetal grey on yes, another coat…
So the aim is then to battle all desires to get yet another cute, nothing special coat next winter but to go for something physically weighty and heaving with deets.

the safety pins you showed were not on a coat its a jumper dress, you also showed zips on a skirt. Gareth Pugh isnt just coats
I think my close up of the zips were on the collars of the coat…. and the skirt as well..
My mistake about the safety pins…. that was a jumper dress…. press day was a while back alas…
I wasn’t implying Gareth Pugh did JUST coats…. he does separates well too but if I had to choose one GP item to buy, it would be his wonderful coats…
I love that triangular pattern on the last coat! I’m really into triangles/pyramids now. I would like the coat more if it was in a more classic shape – I’m a simple girl. 🙂
Where did you take this pictures ? Do you know the price ?
Yours.
Cool stuff.
Those are zippers? When looking at the collection on style.com I thought it was some strange PVC material. If you miss the deets, you miss everything. It’s all about the deets.
The ‘deets’ are formidable!
But if I had to choose, the best ones are the ones in gunmetal because it is beautiful, well detailed, and more practical.
The safety pins dress is wonderful to look at. The details are astounding but I think for a woman to wear this dress, they just ought to be a little bit heavy don’t you think? 🙂
Gareth Pugh is a master at “deets” and has tons of design talent. I just wish he made something a bit more obviously wearable and practical. That can be done w/o dumbing down the concept.
Susie…since you mentioned The Sartorialist in another thread….have you ever thought of doing a “make over” on someone other than yourself? Just asking, not suggesting.
Fighting…urge..to cover my grey flannel skirt in hundreds of safety pins….
his triangle pieces reminded me of that curtain by idon’trememberwhatdesigner from a couple years ago or so that was textured nearly identically and could pull to accentuate the pyramids. would buy that in a second if it was in production yet. needless to say, that’s what i’d be going toward if i had some pughbucks.
Wow, Those coats are the shite. And now, I’m officially out of superblatives.
No, that wasn’t a typo.
I’m lusting after the safety pins on the jumper dress…somehow he’s managed to make them look like, of all things, frills..
Oh god that saftey pin dress is insanely beautiul!!
i absolutely adored pugh’s collection when it showed at LFW!x
That safety pin dress is like a magic eye – I was looking at it for nigh on a full minute before I worked out where the safety pins were!
Or maybe that just says something about me..?
i’m in love with the zipper suit. the texturing looks divine, although it looks pretty heavy to me..
