Undies and Knits

I've been a little bit besotted with the idea of extended bras verging on a crop top to wear over t-shirts/vests (my collection of AA grey tri-blend jersey racerback vests are my shield, preventing the exposure of a tum that likes crackling and roast potatoes way too much, to all and sundry….).

Even better when contrasted with chunky protective knits so Clare Tough's A/W 09 collection is right up my bra-under-chunky-cardi alley.  She's designed a capsule collection of lingerie in appropriate non-sheeny fabrics in grey and nude.  The underwear as outwear potential is vast especially with the elastic panelling.

It is all a bit "I'm nochalently looking sexy in my boudoir…" but that said, given the right accessories, bras, stockings, big pants and oversized knits can definitely venture out into the sunlight…

Undies aside, Clare Tough's collection can reign supreme in a winter season apt for knitwear and the addition of lattice beaded dresses, jumpsuits and trench-capes only makes the Tough gal even more desirable to emulate.  There's a substantiality to the knitwear that is also balanced out with more delicate affairs, the obvious being the underwear but it's also evident in the flash of flesh at the back, the nicely snug fit and the impression that Tough is eager for girls to step out in a knitted dress and not much else.

I'm also glad that upon a quick Google search, Tough is now stocked in a number of places and has even gone to menswear lengths with some brilliant subtle patchwork cardis.

  1. This is gorgeous, I love those bras up top and the last dress with the cutout back. Definitely working the nonchalant sexy!

  2. That backless dress is just to die for. I don’t think I could go out in polite society with my underwear showing, but maybe that’s just me.

  3. LOVE the last dress image. I’m interested to see this extended bra in action. I think it could really work.

  4. omg you have no idea how obsessed with innerwear-as-outerwear i am.
    it’s just so pretty.
those bustiers look so amazing. i’ve been searching for the perfect one for a long time..
this whole collection is so feminine and pretty.

  5. i love the suspenders with that shaggy wool cardigan, still trying to get my head round exactly how the whole stockings/suspenders thing can convert to day time!
p.s. i’ve just read the ponystep article, it was great! it felt like you were really open, but you do put little hints through the blog that are quite memorable even if they are subtle, even though style bubble isn’t about your whole life, but when you do quickly mention something more personal it always shines in my mind. i don’t know if i explained that well but it’s nice to hear you talk comfortably about what’s behind the blog and your daily life. i also wonder if many other bloggers share insecurities too, or if that’s common among fashion lovers or even just women or the world in general. again, great article! bet it’s nice to have questions other than ‘why did you start a blog’ and ‘how many hits do you get’

  6. even thought it´s (supposed to be) spring now, I miss the warm knits <3 Suvi (the model) looks great, love her

  7. Love the cropped lingerie bustiers, though i don’t know if I’d wear them out.

  11. I absolutely love styling underwear as outerwear! I’ve used it a lot in my online vintage shop. It looks great worn in so many different ways, recently i’ve been styling my Lullie Vintage shop with them over top floral 90’s rompers. I LOVE these chunky sweaters! This is a great line.
    xo
