>> "Swimwear, swimwear and more swimwear" said someone in a somewhat exasperated drone when I mentioned I'd be going to Rosemount Australian Fashion Week.  Of course she is a little inacurate in her statement but his was supposed to be a deterrant to my enthusiasm.  That said, given that this is a fashion niche that is alien to me, even more so than lingerie or denim, I'm determined to at least try to understand what the hell all that tight lycra, thigh-high cuts and err.. boob/bum support is all about.

I'm in no position to be talking in a remotely knowledgeable way about swimwear.  Afterall this is the girl who is in possesion of the most basic swimsuit you could ever think of just because I only venture into water about twice a year.  Maybe not even that.

I am however fully on board with swimwear that doubles up as bodywear and have done this on occasion with a few swmsuits which don't even manage to touch water.  Yes, there's the tricky pulling it all the way down to go to the loo (though someone told me they yanked their AA leotards to one side to erm… do their business… nice, eh?) but as long as I'm not too intoxicated and I'm particularly into the suit, I'll go ahead and proceed with the arduous private strip down.

So it is with this in mind, that I look at Seventh Wonderland's new S/S 10-11 collection which just showed here at RAFW… (I may end up confusing both you and myself with the switch to Southern Hemisphere seasons but I'll try to stick to the correct S/S 10-11 in general…)… corsetry lacing, marbling, tight elasticated ruching, criss-cross crochet complete with medusa slicked McQueen S/S 10-esque hair.  Surely to be worn with skater skirts or voluminous trousers that flap around, contrasting with the tighty top half?  Anymore complicated than that and I might give myself bladder problems…

  1. It is a pity that we will get to see you in the latest swimwear seeing that you hardly ever go swimming, but as you said, some of these fantastic swimwear items can be used as part of an outfit.

  2. Er, (to that “someone”) actually in Australia we have been know to show clothes other than swimwear too…..
    Hope you enjoy the shows!

  3. Haha I was sewing bits together backstage at that show! Talulah’s pants to be precise… wish i’d gotten to meet you Susie! Hope you have a fantastic RAFW

  4. The models actually look pretty healthy! With a bit of meat on the arms/thighs πŸ™‚
Nice swimwear, although I won’t have the guts to wear them (might go for the trousers though), as I’m usually a lame tshirt + shorts over swimwear person…

  5. Yay! You’re enjoying the show!
Hope to see more updates on RAFW~
Do you have any breaks, or ‘relaxing’ time on your Australian trip?! haha

  6. Arduous private strip down ahaha!!! I like the crochet detailing. I would definitely wear that although probably not to the pool. <3

  7. Um, the 2nd last one is an abomination. But I Iike the aqua one and the panel detail up the front.

  8. Absolutely beautiful! You have no idea how much I want the last suit, or, even better, the one in the 4th picture. Oh my goodness. I may have to go lie down for a moment.
