Avert eyes // Stare intently

semif.gif

Please excuse this very GIF-heavy post.  Scroll very quickly down to skip and ignore if it gives you a migraine but I’m not just inserting these for superflous reasons.  It is but a cheapo way of illustrating the topic of the post, obviously being MUSIC!  Whilst I would really not call myself a ‘muso’ as in a music geek (I’ll leave that to my boyf…) my music taste is as eclectic as my choice of clothes.  I can’t really say I identify myself with one musical genre and ergo, the dress style that is appropriated with the genre can’t really be used to describe my style either… emo, goth, indie, rockabilly, hip-hop (there is no finite definition to this word… let’s just leave it at that…).  Neither do I wear things that point out blatantly as to the direction of my music tastes… band t-shirts and the like.

However, the number of days when a certain song will influence what I’m wearing are countless.  I can just about remember most of the songs that have results in the oufits on my Style Diary (which I’m sorry I haven’t updated in a million years, but I’m currently figuring a new way of presenting the daily outfit pic….).  It’s a little more arbitrary than simply dressing like the style of the band/artist but rather it’s the mood that I’m feeling at the time when listening to the tune that causes me to pull out random things from the wardrobe.

I’m not going to be so rude as to impose my music tastes onto you guys so I’ll leave you to press that play button on these songs… why I’ve chosen the outfits I did, I haven’t a clue now…. I’ll have to listen to the song again to try and remember what brainwaves were buzzing through the head.

Semifinalists (Myspace) – ‘Show the Way’ (from ‘Semifinalists’ album)

Beirut (Myspace) – ‘In the Maosoleum’ (from the ‘Flying Club Cup’ album)

  1. Not only am I impressed by your amazing style, but by your ability to make the computer do your bidding! I am totally lost in that area.
By the way, the first look is amazing.

  2. Brilliant post – I really like the outfits (and I don’t mind the .gif’s). The music won’t play on my computer though…Is it just my crappy computer and crappy connection? Any tips?

  3. Ah, you have discovered the joys of the animated Gif! I had to stop myself animating everything when I first did it on one of my posts a while ago – I was set to become a danger to anyone with epilepsy!

  4. sasa: The white dress is from Gap… one of those limited edition CFDA dresses…and the silver dress underneath is vintage.
dk_fashionblogger: Music files should be fixed… hope it works for you! You have to activate the players yourself though…
DJM: Trust me when I say animated GIF’s are not joys…reminds me too much of Cassette-Playa style MySpace pages… but for the purpose of the post…. had to be done…
Anyone else having difficulty with the music? I will try and resolve…

  5. Love this post and the songs you’ve choosen, I havent heard of Darkel though, think I might check them out, I love Beirut, I think I came across them when they were on Jools Holland’s show also I love the outfit thats with the song, especially the sheer blue dress with the silver stripped leggings

  6. the outfit to the matthew stone remix is to die for, especially your cute poses and the smile in the last picture! loving the gloves too

  7. The musicplayer works for me now. I love how the rythm of the .gif animations follow the rythm of the music…Or is it just me who’s seeing/hearing things?

  8. definitely stare intently! then attempt to steal + use for outfit inspiration! my favourite outfit, and coincidentally favourite song, of the bunch- slightly 40s avec headpiece outfit. now it can dance along my desktop!

  9. I love this post. And it got me thinking, there are so many things that inspire or affect the outfit choices we make. For me it could be the book I’ve been reading, the weather, the tasks I’ll be doing that day, and of course the feelings evoked in a song.
P.s are those tights or leggings at the bottom?

  10. This is a genius idea! Reminds me to listen to different songs in the morning while trying to pick out an outfit..

  11. I love the effect! Also, the silver-striped leggings. I try to dress like music sometimes but the effect is never as fully realized as it is here.

  12. brilliant! i love it… and i completely can see where you’re getting your inspiration, oddly enough (i have a complete lack of artistic ability). plus, i love all the songs you chose!

  13. All those outfits are really fantastic and I like how the musci influenced you–even if you can’t directly explain the link. Isn’t that the way inspiration goes? Minds start buzzing so fast and thoughts running at a blinding rate, some things get lost, others you cling to the trane of thought is gone.

  14. Great outfits, Susie! It’s great to get to hear the inspiration behind them, too- even though it may not directly reflect the band’s own style or the way its fans dress, inspiration doesn’t work that way- it’s all about what’s triggering in your own head at that moment, and I think it comes across pretty well.

  15. WOOO WOOO I LOOOOOVVVVEEE the gifs and the musics &hearts
my favourites ouftits are number 2 and 3 (love the black and the silver so much) and my favourite music is the remix of ‘Loving You’ πŸ™‚
    great great post definitely πŸ™‚

  16. i listen to the matthew remix of loving you all the time… and that white dress sums it up

  17. wonderful post!!at last some outfits!
although some of the GIF whatever they are called went a little bit too fast!
    lovd the white+silver one

  18. the second shoes from the top are just fabulous! beirut is my ears’ current love. i think it will last for a long time!
p.s my blog is reborn under a new name+adress (the previous one- eye closed, mouth agape is useless now). hope you enjoy!
    luv

  19. Such a lovely, lovely post! I do often find inspiration in music, but also books and films. It’s interesting how your surroundings can influence you!

  20. I do apologise if I’ve given anybody a headache and yes the GIF’s are a little on the fast side… but I did try and time them to the beat of the music hence why they are running like that…. or maybe I’m trying to trick you guys into thinking these are wicked outfits by making them move faster…. yes…. that is my ultimate masterplan!
Thanks though for not wanting to thump me for giving you an epileptic fit…
Erol: The boots are from Victoria’s Secret…faux Balenciagas…. deary me!
The silver and nude striped things you see in the last outfit are leggings… they’re by a young Brazilian designer that I can’t really remember… bought them in Concrete in Soho London though…
Heloise: Changed your link! Good luck with the newly titled blog!

  21. Susie dances! Haha, doesn’t matter, I already got a headache, lol.
Too bad I can’t hear the music cause my boxes don’t work, after half a year I still need to buy new ones although they are only β€šΓ‡Β¨10 or something.
I really like the last outfit πŸ˜‰

  22. I like this idea! My favourite one is the white and silver one where you look at the camera for a split second. caught ya.

  23. the moving pics are great. and i am a TOTAL music geek!!! but i listen to anything anyway, but i also have a favourite band.

  24. Oh Bubble, that was nice. And I think you are on to something – visual kareoke!

  25. This is *so* much fun. I love all of the outfits but especially the last. The pink, royal blue and silver are all too perfect together.

  26. This is a really cool post, and I’m very excited to see a mention of Semifinalists on Style Bubble!

  27. Hey Susie, are those the Jenne O shoes of note in that last image? Cool! What I like most about these images is that you’re actually smiling in some and it gives your face a certain mischievous quality that I get from your writing but seldom from your images. You should do it more often. πŸ˜‰

  28. Sooo cool! So music-inspired, without the cliche of tight-jeans-and-band-shirt. Love the first look best, but they’re all supercute.

It’s Easier to Find Someone of the Same Faith and BackgroundIn the past, singles who wanted to meet other singles could employ a professional matchmaker or utilize a dating service, such as video dating. They were able to meet and mingle with other singles throughout their city, state, or wherever the dating service could reach. Single Christians, on the other hand, relied on church related groups. These Christian singles have the opportunity to meet and mingle with other Christians through these church groups, but they are limited to the people that belong to their own church. They were missing out on all of the other people in their area that also had similar morals, values, and beliefs. While some groups from different churches may get together for mixers, many stay within their own congregation. Christian singles needed a way to contact other Christian singles in their community without pressure or expectation. Christian dating, as a service and business, evolved out of this need.US, UK, and Canadian Christian dating is rapidly flourishing on the Internet scene today; more and more Christians are finding true love or friendship easily and often it’s free. 30. The Beirut song is called “Forks And Knives (La Fete)” not “In the Mausoleum”.
