If I’m shopping with friends, I always say to them ‘Under no circumstance, must you let me loose in a haberdashery shop of any sort.’ Unfortunately, I went shopping alone yesterday so I kind went a wee bit crazy in my local hab – Finishing Touches. Lace, pom pom trim and ribbon are great for jazzing up a t-shirt or tank top. It’s a cheapo way of altering an outfit ever so subtly. I think the simpler the colours (black, grey, white, cream), the better because then it doesn’t look too much like a doll’s outfit. I like to combine my frippery with skinny belts to create various structural details to what is otherwise a plain outfit. The thing is, unlike crazy me who can end up spending a fortune in haberdasheries, you don’t have to do the same because with one piece of long lace, depending on how you tie it, there’s quite a few ways of making a t-shirt look different.
I’m the same mad woman in haberdashery/craft shops with ribbon of every colour now under my bed, I also use them to adorn simple tees but I prefer to use them around my neck, wound around, tied bundled etc and pinning them down to create structural neck pieces etc
Yes, I make ribbon/lace neckpieces too…. except, it’s a little too hot to have them around my neck now whilst sweating it out on the tube!
oooh, i was at a fabric store the other day and i was going to get some pompom trim to make a necklace. thanks for the ideas! and relatively inexpensive, too!
Cool… such a nice Ribbondry and Frippery is that. very fashionable. even though i don’t wear that, i love the style of the Ribbondry. keep it up!
