UCL fashion show

My university life at UCL (University College of London) seems like a lifetime away but in reality, I only graduated last year.  It’s good to reminisce though when I accidentally stumbled upon these fashion show images from the ‘Fairies and Fantasies’ show in February 2006.  The UCL fashion scene…. well, to put it bluntly, is rather grim. It’s just not something that a lot of people cared about when you spend 15 hours of the day in the library, carrying a ton of books and biting your nails worrying about dissertations.  But the few that were into fashion, stood out and shon so vividly.  I remember shyly approaching the MODO fashion society stand at freshers fair and thinking ‘Wow those people are STYLE incarnated.’  It’s no mean feat to find people who can take the time out to design and make dresses whilst studying medicine or law.  The show itself takes weeks of late night rehearsals, fittings and meetings (of which I happily took part in!).  So here’s my shoutout to the amazing people in MODO – Corrine, Chloe – you guys did an amazing job.  I couldn’t get to the show this year but from the pics, it looked like another jolly good night.  Yes, the clothes may not be amazingly pro (you can’t really compare a Russell Group uni fashion show to something like LCF…) but I can say, having taken part in the show, it really is about a passion for bringing fashion to an environment which is not necessarily fashion-friendly.
