Fit for a Queen

Any REAL Londoner will tell you that they’ve probably never visited the state rooms at Buckingham Palace.  We know better than to fork over 14 quid over to fund the Royal Family’s upkeep of their many many palaces and holiday getaways.  However, I may have to make an exception and head down to Her Majesty’s residence to see the Dress for the Occasion exhibition.  From tomorrow, in celebration of the Queen’s 80th birthday, 80 of her gowns spanning a period between the 1940’s and the present will be on display.  It’s a wonderful chance to experience the work of two leading British couturiers – Norman Hartnell and Hardy Amies (whom I have already professed my love for!).  It’s funny, I don’t think of the Queen as a showy dresser but judging from these gowns, young ‘Lillibet’ favoured a bit of bling-bling.

  1. Sounds delightful! Do you know how long the exhibit will be up? I’ll be in London in September, but if the exhibit goes up tomorrow, I’ll probably miss it =
