"I like your sleeves. They're real big."

These sleeves just about redefine my conception of what big sleeves are.  These aren’t bad 80’s prom dress poofy sleeves.  They’re not twee little puff sleeves on Victoriana shirts.  These are disc shaped sleeves that unashamedly jut out, a nod to the 15th century sillhouette mashed up with Dynasty-style shoulder pads which reflects the title of the collection which this top comes from – ‘Relics from the Future’.  When I saw this Walter Van Beirendonck top at his infamous ‘garage’ store in Antwerp, I could not figure out which I loved more – the shape and structure of the top or the folksy, naive type embroidery on the disc sleeves.  This top almost cries for a licence for you to wear it, as you invade people’s space with your humongous ‘sleeves’.
