Concrete Findings

I'm currently querying my moleskin notebook over shoe a vs. shoe b.  Yes, it's that time when anal retention rules all.  Tomorrow I leave for New York Fashion Week and fricking shoe a vs. shoe b will probably end up conclusively by my lugging shoes abcdefgh.

Like that tingly feeling about London Fashion Week shifting to Somerset House, there's something different about this season's New York fashion week what with the Milk Studios and M.A.C takeover and even more new designers doing presentations.  On Thursday night, whilst everyone is shopping their brains out as part of Vogue's BIG NIGHT OUT, as I'm flat-arsed broke, I'll be trekking out to as many presentations as possible.  One of them is Rita Liefhebber who was kind enough to send through pics of some of the 20 looks that she'll be presenting as her debut collection.  Rita has been in the industry for a while, starting off as a model and then working as fashion editor of Flare magazine in Canada.  She then moved to New York and is now forging her career as a designer whilst being completely self taught.

Not that, that shows in these looks.  What does show though is a consideration for covetable keypieces rather than designing to a literal theme or muse.  That said, Rita was inspired by pools and concrete and so the palette and textures reflect that.  There's a matted grey silk seamless long trench, a mini mesh dress embroidered with black shard-like vinyl pieces and some beautiful accordion pleated shirts.  The shiny vinyl particularly makes me want to see it in person as it also looks like the shards fit together perfectly like a puzzle.  I'm excited to see the rest of the collection to see what other pieces Rita has come up with whilst being inspired by the seemingly mundane.

3, adore that gold skirt and the leg wear in the first picture.
    Tomorrow x

  2. the first picture really freaked me out cause at first sight i thought the black part on the leggings was all of her leg xD

  3. Well, if I were Rachel Zoe I would be saying BANANAS right now… That golden skirt & the cardigan are surrearily gorgeous! And I just ADORE that grey jacket…
    Lovely post!

  4. OOOooo, can’t wait to hear everything about New York fashion week. I know you’ll have some goo stories for us… you always do ;D
I love the little details in these clothes, like th peekaboo pleating on the inside of a black blazer. What a great idea!
ps- high five for being broke!! Woopwoop
    <3<3<3

  5. Like Lisa (above), I too was tricked/freaked by the optical illusion of the two-tone tights against the white background, haha, the model had a long arm for a leg!
LOVE the last trench! Bon voyage! Hope you have a blast!
    xx

  6. At first glance I too thought the model had stickman legs…I was thinking I better hop back on the excercise bike!
    The gold skirt is sublime.
Hope you have an awesome time in NY you lucky bugger! I look forward to your coverage 😀

  7. not sure about the collection (judging only on these photos) but i do like the bodycon dress. have fun at fashion week you lucky thing! xoxo

  8. Liefhebber sounds Dutch… I really like the golden skirt & the black pvc dress!!
    Have fun in NY!!

  9. lucky you going to new york fashion week – i just had to look at that first pic like ten times – i was thinking wow that model has the skinniest legs i have ever seen – but then realised it was because of the black and white on the bottoms! and white on a white background – yes i am an idiot x

  10. GOLD SKIRT!!!….there is something incredibly awe inspiring about self taught/made designers….ah to be in a world where anything is possible!

  11. Those black/white trousers really tricked my eye, thought the girl had most skinny minny legs in the world.

  12. Cute looks. But hardly original. I see Gareth Pugh, Balmain, Alexander Wang, etc etc.
My fave piece is also the accordion pleat gold skirt.

  13. ^But to be fair, those designers have ALSO appropriated styles from older designers…Leigh Bowery, Alaia, Scherrer etc…cycles go on and on…
Sadly, nothing I post is going to be 100% original and that’s not necessarily a bad thing…

  14. i sure don’t want to be a hater as everybody here is commenting very friendly and enthusiastically. but i really have to say, that these things are not only unoriginal, but bad and uninventive. claudia rosa lukas i.e. (other names mentioned anyhoo) and a truckload of undergraduate fashion students did and do black/white color-combinations with leggings and masculine tops, pleats even and then highlighting with one showpiece (the golden skirt) – duh. jumping on the alice dellal 90s metal bandwagon is also somewhat dull. i have to say, i am not feeling this at all. but of course i agree there are so many new posts, that not all can be about the most stunning things
