Softly Does It

An email popped up today to let me know that Tim Barber's new portfolio site is up.  Bio bio bio…. Barber is founder of imagist-haven Tiny Vices, chum of Ryan McGinley (who's egg-cited about his London exhibition 'Moonmilk'?) and all in all, very much responsible for Urban Outfitters' past few years of wonderful photographic aesthetic development.  Receiving the UO lookbooks has always instigated a look into the styling and photography and for a few seasons, Barber has been that person shooting them and ultimately making me crave the entire atmosphere he creates as well as the indivudual UO items…

On Barber's site, it's his work for Stella McCartney lingerie which has really caught my eye not least because I've already professed my love for her lingerie launch which was surprisingly considered.  The latest batch of pictures I here are *I think* from the S/S 10 collection and once again it's all dusky, faded, see-through, lacey that celebrates the presence of fabric as opposed to the lack of (I'm talking to you, uncomfortable thongs and wiry bras…).

I'm hoping this lace bed jacket with hook and eye fastening and heavy elastic trim, is part of the actual lingerie collection…

These are from the current A/W 09 collection.  Yay for elongated bras, balloon sleeves and coral/red sheer stockings…

  1. Very beautiful pics. But she also makes wired bras and uncomfortable thongs. I think we cannot run away from those.

  2. ^I think I’m referring to the er… Ann Summers sort of thongs and bras…. as in made with not much fabric consideration whatsoever…. :S

  3. So pretty- especially that pale pink and blue bralet/camisole (what to call it?!)
But what I really want are those snuggly over-the-knee socks in the first look.

  4. Those pictures are all so beautiful, as are the individual pieces. Yay for elongated bras, indeed!!!

  5. I want elongated bras. Have been looking for underwear for a while without any success. These pics make me, as you describe it, “craving the atmosphere”.

  6. those sheer red stockings are killer. and what is the girl with the black jacket’s name? she’s beautiful. and looks very familiar.

  7. *sigh* Pretty pretty. But not likely to look a fraction as good on me then on these skinny models. Love the balloon sleeves..and err ouch to cat claws on nipples!

  8. Gorgeous shots! Grey is such a great colour for lingerie: it’s sexy, and if you accidentally throw it in with the dark wash, all is not lost..
Love his work: will keep an eye out. Thanks for the post.

  9. Ali took the words right out of my (keyboard?) mouth.. ouch.
*Pretty* garments, though, and fine light images.

  10. Ali and Claire… I totally agree… I’m scared of cats so the idea of having with me when topless freaks me out…I’ll just concentrate on the coral/red stockings me thinks…

  11. i’ve been looking for an “elongated bra” like this one for underneath shear shirts. lovely lingerie. πŸ™‚

  12. lovely pieces indeed, there is something so sensual and supple about the styling of this collection….which i think in the end lingerie should be about…how i love the balloon sleeves!!

Gilder and Pearl have a satin bra with a longer, bralette shape coming in at figleaves.com soon, if you get their brochure then take a look. They’ve also got Dita Von Teese for Wonderbra launching Friday but that’s a little bit more vintage!

  14. wow, I’m usually not one for intimates…I can be a very conservative one. But these are actually beautiful pieces. One up for Stella!
