What a load of gubbins…

Untitled2.gif

>> “Your house is lovely… it’s just a bit overstuffed,” is what someone remarked recently when they came and saw my hovel house.  Try as I might and it doesn’t really matter how much space I’m given, I’ll somehow fill it and with a cacophony of stuff that manages to fall into colour co-ordinated combinations.  Having your own place just gives you license to go out and procure and hold on to more miscellany, because in your head there’ll be some permanent use of an ornamental jar/decorative box/wrapping paper somewhere in the house.  I’ve been particularly contemplating my hoarding-habit of pretty (but maybe a tad useless) gubbins in the last few days, all be it with a grimace as I’ve had to meticulously pre over my bank statements, wondering why Liberty, Selfridges, Boots and Paypal (I blame eBay and Etsy…)  appear in scary recurring rashes.  Robert Green, the accountant is hashtag not impressed – but let’s plug him all the same because he is my DON right now.  I’ve come to the conclusion that essentially I have turned into a tarted-up and more colourful version of what my mother is, with her secret stashes of rubber bands, bits of string and old Chinese take out boxes.  Something does need to be done and of course the tendency to hoard is certainly not something to be mocked, but in the meantime, can we just arrange things into Insta-friendly formations and pretend that everything is going to be ok?

In the blue corner… Studio Snowpuppe paper lamp (impulse Etsy buy yet to be hung), Nicholas Kirkwood sandals, Sinead But hand painted envelope, C.J. Flood’s Infinite Sky, yet another pair of UrbanEars, Print All Over Me x Buried Diamond clutch that is the equivalent of a name badge, Hay tray

In the red corner… Lucy Folk’s tropical sliced necklace, sound tube from Harmon, Karen Walker’s cat pouch, W. Somerset Maugham’s The Magician, J.W. Anderson twisted bag, MM6 metallic bracelet, Yazbukey lip buttons, Chanel trainers, an Epi leather envelope from a Louis Vuitton invite, Niels Peeraer bracelet

In the anything goes corner… Kit Neale’s SS14 funky fresh patterned trousers, Miu Miu sunglasses, half of my Halloween cyber rave outfit thanks to Cyber Dog, Meredith Wendell x Ames Bros pouch

  1. Love having loads of clutter-y stuff. You never know what you might use it for, although a clean out once every year is handy, it makes room for newest bunch of things to appear. If there’s ever anything you don’t want, I can be a great help ;))

    Loved the post!

  2. I’m something of a hoarder myself but now we’re moving abroad I’m having to be ruthless with the gubbins, knick-knacks and bits ‘n’ bobs, sob!

  3. I adore those headphones so much! I’m also loving the colour choice! Just found your blog as well and I will definitely be following!
