Blooming Lovely

>> "They grow, they bloom, they fade. You can't hold on to them for ever. Fashion is like that too in a way – it comes and it goes. They are symbolic for richness, romance. They capture people because of their smell, their appearance. They enhance emotion, create emotion even. Just like fashion does."

The Antwerp-based florist Mark Colle divulged a little about the relationship between flowers and fashion in an interview I did for Dazed Digital.  You'll know Colle through his recent set collaborations with Raf Simons on both his last Jil Sander show and his Dior Haute Couture debut, where flowers weren't just there for ornamental purpose.  They've become regular Tumblr and inspiration fodder ever since their debut, garnering as much attention as the clothes themselves.

  1. That is one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen in my life and I’m mesmerized forever by it.

  2. Great to see such a modern take on flowers – proof that they don’t have to be stuffy and traditional.
Looking out at the chilly grey weather, I think that I’ll need to make a stop at the florist’s tomorrow to brighten things up a bit –

  3. The flowers at the Jil Sander show remind me of the album art for New Order’s Power Corruption and Lies. It is all beautiful work.

  4. Beatiful flower wall! Looks like a wedding venue set? That’s really nice and I would like to know how I can have someone design the same for my wall.

  5. Ah, you’ve just made my day! Utterly breathtaking, thank you, Susie. I’ve added Mark Colle to my alerts, I don’t want to miss a thing this man does.

  6. Utterly beautiful botanical displays! They really do add something more – something intangible but most certainly perceptible, like transient grace and truth – to their surroundings and enhance the fashion show as a whole.
