Time Capsule

>> I'm not normally one for promoting charity auctions nor am I a huge sucker for giveaways and competitions.  Basically I'm just totally lacking in goodwill and generosity.  Bah humbug me.  Well, I've been on the funny tea and I'm starting to erm…care and share and all that.  First the Versace x H&M dress giveaway and now this Dazed 20th Anniversary auction.  I might have to start adding kisses and hearts as a sign off to every post if all this spreading of joy/happiness doesn't cease.  I promise this is an auction worth monitoring and waiting up for.  Dazed and Confused are really elongating their 20th birthday party by asking a whole host of stylists, designers and past collaborators to select one personal memento that sums up the last two decades for them to put into the Dazed "time capsule".  I'd love it if they did it Blue Peter style and physically buried every item in a slightly rubbish looking time capsule in a garden.  Fortunately, these time capsule items will be up for auction on eBay starting from this Sunday 20th November and available for everyone to have a go at bidding with all proceeds going to Oxfam.  As a former eBay addict (I'm still a user, just not an abuser…), I'll of course be setting my eBay auction end times on at least ten of these items.  I promise I won't eBaySnipe you.  That's not the proper spirit of eBay afterall…

I could think of SO many Christopher Kane pieces that could go into a twenty year time capsule but this aqua-filled clutch certainly is memorable.  I'd love to see someone analysing it twenty years from now, decoding its 80s/90s pencil case references // Alber Elbaz without his bow-tie is like…. erm…. peanut butter without the jelly.  It just doesn't work.  I'd prefer it if a dancing Elbaz was wearing this bow tie bue I suppose the object in itself would be a dandy treat for Lanvin-addicts.

I can't verify whether these classic Adidas Gazelle donated by Kate Moss have been worn by her.  One for the pervy feet sniffers out there who go after celeb shoes/socks. // Another designer trademark comes courtesy of Karl Lagerfeld and his collar along with a tie that remarks "That's all I did", a sore understatement in the case of the prolific designer.

OF COURSE Donatella Versace's lighter comes encrusted with Swarovski crystals and the classic Medusa head.  I could be one of those weird non-smokers who happens to carry a flash lighter.  //  Jefferson Hack's copy of Andy Warhol‚Äôs Index (Book) which I was thinking of getting anyway… might have to play price match between this copy and Amazon marketplace.  

I have no hope in hell in procuring these Natacha Marro shoes which Dazed fashion director Karen Langley used in a shoot when she was first assisting.  I love their tortured balletic shape (they were used for a shoot featuring Michael Clark).  On a more angry note about Natacha Marro – will Jeffrey Campbell's Lita please just go and drop off a cliff and give Marro her original work credit where it's due? // I'm about to delve deep into sensei Yohji Yamamoto with the documentary This Is My Dream and I love that he's donated this wonderful sketch.

Dazed fashion editor Katie Shillingford is pretty renowned for having gone through every hair colour in the rainbow.  She asked Alex Brownsell of Bleach to dye this wig for Mia Wasikowska for the March 2010 cover and has since worn it a Christmas party.  I think there's plenty more life in this party wig yet… // On another coloured hair note, I love this photograph donated by Another Magazine fashion director Cathy Edwards.  It's one of the first Dazed covers she styled and pre-dates all the pink/blue rinsed hair that we've been bombarded with, by almost a decade. 

Of course Viktor & Rolf's doll, inspired by their 'Atomic Bomb' 1998 collection, should be kept in the fridge. // Last but not least, Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen has donated her decorated scissors, a symbol of all the handicraft and man hours that she has put into the house.
