>> You know the drill. Once NYFW comes around, things get a bit sketchy here when supposedly I'm meant to be chugging out posts like clockwork. It's times like these when an inkling of a thought enters about asking people to 'help' me out but then I think, who else would be bothered to ponder things such as what to term Richard Chai Love's semi-skirts that wrapped over trousers, covering the front but not the back, seen at his S/S 12 show yesterday. The formidable Man Repeller has already termed them as the skant – a cross between a skirt and a pant. The American slant on the 'skant' could perhaps be a little confusing. I prefer being long-winded and awkward with my words by saying 'trouser-halfsie-skirt'.
I've been a fan of the halfsie skirt since I've been trying to fashion some out odd pieces and also procuring on at the J.W. Anderson sale. Richard Chai's versions put an official stamp on the 'trouser-halfsie-skirt' begging the question of whether they're removable or totally integrated with the trousers. Either way, it makes for another interesting bit of layering, something that Chai proposes each season but for S/S 12, it seemed to have lightened up a great deal with a floral Hawaiian-esque print involved and a more varied colour palette…
Another layering trick that gets the mind turning is the tight miniskirt over a wide legged trouser going against my normal grain of a fuller skirt over skinny/tight trousers. This a very signature Chai curveball that he's done before in previous collection but I'm *think* finally convinced…
love the layering and the colours in these outfits!

i love the last one! incredibly creative – i’ve never seen anything exactly like tight mini skirts over wide legged trousers.

Bringing the skirt/trouser back – love the 90s revival!

aaaah, totally my thing, those half-skirt-pants thing! wouldn’t even mind a full skirt-pants-wrap as i’ve always loved skirts over pants. ๐
yes, i’m going with apron, as well. would be terribly unflattering on me, but totally cute on many….
Nice one, there is actually some good points on this blog some of my readers may find this useful,http://www.louboutinshop.net I must send a link, many thanks.
While I love the mixture of prints in the layers, I’m not sold on the “trouser-halfsie-skirt”. This is mostly because it reminds me too much of the days of being a waitress. I’m sure anyone else that has had to don an apron and cater to a table would agree. But then again maybe that is the high-fashion appeal. A little taste of the working class perhaps ๐ Who knows! I do know that I like it on the runway though!

i think i was convinced about the tight skirt over full pants thing when i saw some of the looks from acne resort 2012 – pics 1 and 12 specifically. not sure about chai’s proportions though. look forward to seeing your version…
