Knit Bite

>> This would have been my New York breakfast had I been smart enough to stow them away in my case.  As per usual, I've landed in to New York and woken up at stupid-o-clock and am now faced with a grumbling stomach, not helped by a vivid photograph of these biscuits that Harvey Nichols cooked up in celebration of Wool Week.  I like the fact that it's not a polite and singular biscuit but a WHOLE box full to stuff your face with.  That sort of calorific generosity needs to happen more in fashion.

Wool Week is sort of a no-brainer for me.  The point is to raise public profile of wool but most people I know don't really need a special 'week' to celebrate the presence of this most wonderful fiber and the products that come about as a result of wool.  Still despite the PR-spin fest, to temporarily explore the artistic possibilities of wool and its relationship with fashion has got to be a good thing, especially if there are good biscuits to be had out of it….

Harvey Nichols asked Ruth Cross, the subtle but emphatic 'yarn-bomber' and knitted goods designer to create these egg crate and knitted egg installations to house the wool-attacked bags (by Burberry, Anya Hindmarch, Smythson etc etc…) that will be auctioned off between 20th and 30th September.  Google Image yarn-bombing and it's a plethora of knit graffiti that can range from small to large scale.  Cross' type of bombing is rather more subdued as she seems to revel in the natural colours of the yarns.  I'm really hoping though that Cross did totally intend to reference Mario Bros. when depicting eggs with wings…

  1. Those cookies are too cute to be eaten. And the bowling bag in the fourth image is just perfect for the coming season. Susie, have great time in NY!
PS: I went to Smythson (London) to buy the BB case in pale blue and the store was closed…I didn’t remember that boutiques on Bond Street close before 7 PM, aahhh! I’ll try next time…

  2. Hahaha Susie love the first thing you thought about was your stomach! Also I’m amazed wool needs a week, what is not to love about it. Thought the hydrangeas were quite topical too!
    Enjoy NYFW

  3. Dear Susie,
I have been waited long for your update on the UK Wool Week. Thanks for all the yummy cookies & the beautiful bags & clutch! I wish I can attend in person, but with 2 school kids…it’s quite impossible.
However, I’ve been very lucky being TOP 17 (still) at the WoolMark Company’s WE LOVE WOOL Find Fashion by Feelings campaign. I submitted my handmade wool felt heart-shaped bib necklace to the contest. I have been receiving many comments from people all over the world. I really would love to hear what you think of my felted creation! Although my creation may not be the best, but I’m trying to let people know how wool can be so fashionable! Please pop by the follow link if you have a minute & I really care of how people think & I’ll update & improve my way to create better pieces. I’m just starting to meet to public at craft show plus my shop at ETSY (In fact, I found out ETSY from you about 1-2 year ago! Thus I have to say THANK YOU to you too!)
