… so take off all your clothes…
Wise words Nelly but hows about keeping the bare minimum on as demonstrated by two presentations at NYFW. I've got a lot to post about shows where there's a tad more clothes and layers to contend with AKA the shows where I did a lot of sighing and clasping of the hand. However, with this weird muggy heat that has descended on New York, it felt utterly awesome to be able to look at swimwear or lingerie and not think it strange or inappropriate.
We went up to the Le Bain rooftop for the presentation of Prism, designed by the lovely Anna Laub (love a designer who happens to be a knockout ambassador for their own wares…). Only in New York could scenes like this play out and this is precisely why Laub took to NYFW instead of doing something in say London. Since my myopic tale of woe with Prism eyewear, they have expanded into sunnies and swimwear which got a proper airing at the presentation thanks to shiny limbs and models who actually looked quite healthy (again, another deliberate choice of Laub's). It's got to be said, as we were fed ice lollies flavoured and coloured to co-ordinate with the swimwear palette (I had mint green and cucmber…), sipping iced beverages and basking under the sun, I forgot about the existence of fashion week momentarily. It took me into a certain headspace where I thought "Yeah! I can ponce about in a strapless bikini and low-cut briefs and look half-decent!" I've since banished the thought (I can be an admirer from afar…) and am quite content with Prism's reflective sunglasses offering instead…
I've said before that I can totally get onboard with The Lake & Stars lingerie because there are always interesting facets and details that go beyond ideas of purely looking sexy for your man. I'm not gonna deny though that this S/S 12 presentation wasn't smoking hot. It was. The rust-filtered light cast over everyone was a result of the collection being inspired by Mexico City. Burnished gold lame, Aztec embroideries and desert-patterned lace made for a range of bras, chemise and teddies that pleases me as much as it does erm…. Steve. I know she's probably an exception in the course of NYFW but it was also good and totally fitting to see a slightly bigger-than-most model (I'm not sure why the word plus-size makes no sense to me… plus what exactly?) at the presentation. She really did sell me the set of gold lame bra and knickers she was wearing….
the lake and stars collection is unreal! and I agree with you, the plus-size stigma/movement is baffling to me. A hot girl is a hot girl is a hot girl.
